Thread regarding Becton Dickinson & Co. layoffs

So, who is to blame?

BD was once a great place to go into and walk out of happy.

People enjoyed the good ol' days of BD.

Things change, management shuffles. We entrust the Board of Directors to represent the company. The perverbial "torch" is passed on, we've had some great Leaders (but not great managers) Leaders who cared about the company and the people who toiled here.

BD today is an assembly line. An assembly line of numbers, everyone is a number, you need to move faster, there's no room for illness, "management" sees that as weakness. I actually had a manager tell me his integrity was intact and he had no problems sleeping at night, I call "BS" . He bold faced lied to me. I say to him, good luck continuing sleeping without any guilt of impacting individuals lives.

As for the C-level lineup, your day will come around also, the high-flying life you live now, I hope , actually I strive to succeed, and have you serve me. Your time as execs ticks just as the remainder of our tick has died.

We can live with knowing our character was never in question. BD management is heavy, lighten the load, go face the people who you cowardly set a criteria onto managers to ensure they could not be successful. There are lies to ensure you meet a quota to eliminate the job force. Face the people who are left behind and see the sadness, they are beaten down. How will you change morale, it reached the bottom.

BD has committed to using the outsourcing model. Any department or function which can be outsourced to an external company, will be. They pretty much got rid of the IT department that way. BD is no longer are responsible for training personnel, or for hardware/software upgrades as those assets are sold to the outsourcing company. The outsourcing company is now responsible for upgrading the hardware. There are penalties built into the contract if the outsourcing company fails to meet important metrics. It allows BD to control costs without worrying about the overhead for training/maintenance/expansion. It props up earnings to show Wall Street and keeps the stock on the increase, satisfying the shareholders. On the negative side, service from IT has been degraded. The outsourcing personnel have no business knowledge of BD's products and processes, and they have no vested interest in learning them. They offer little in the way of productive solutions that the business modules can use. The degradation of services will catch up with BD at some point in time, and they will begin to reverse this process once they realize their products and delivery have suffered and people have noticed. It may take a few years, but it is almost inevitable.
