Layoff process at BD

Is there any warning to those who were getting laid off or was it a complete surprise shock? Do they give you any explanation?

With layoffs supposedly starting today, just curious if I should start packing my cube early.

What is the difference between the Job Groups?

CareFusion (aka ConFusion) was always a deadline-driven company. In the years I worked there from 2011 until the 2015 BD merger, my job was always on the "tail-end" of deadlines; would find out important job-related information via "water-cooler" informal conversations instead of formal communiques. After the merger, BD continued in that direction. We were given dates/deadlines to meet without any concern for the amount of work involved or the quality of the final product. BD talks a good game about quality, but, in reality, doesn't walk the talk. Am glad to be out of there despite the personal financial difficulties and uncertain future that being laid off has caused. Couldn't stand BD's liberal identity politics, either.

I was also laid off on Monday. I had no warning signs. I was on a hot project and working nights and weekends to meet the deadline. My reviews have always been good. I was notified when I came in Monday morning. They gave us 20 minutes to leave the building. They said they would ship the remainder of my stuff later. The severance package is categorized as: Job groups 1,2,3 will get 2 wks pay per year of service minimum 8 wks. Job groups 4 thru 6 get 2 wks pay per service, minimum 16 wks. Group 7 gets 26 weeks, Group 8 gets 52 weeks.

Culturally, BD layoffs are an annual event. A real conflict with the stated business objectives

BD wants to be a GREAT COMPANY...THIS continual layoff, outsourcing process (now happening even more than once in Sept) rocks the organization to it's core, again and again.

TRULY GREAT COMPANIES/LEADERS deal with performance issues, consistently drive employee development and thereby, create phenomenal loyalty.

BD took a swing at this under Ed Ludwig and made some strides but has never been able to stick with that set of objectives.

Company continues to evolve .Question is, Is it what we truly are aiming for?

I was one of those laid off Monday. On a personal level, had no warning, but knew that September is "layoff month" at BD, so was not surprised in that sense.
