Almost all remaining senior engineers and managers let go today. This is after the first round abotut 6 months ago where 50% of people got axed. Only a handful of people retained and they will move to Santa Clara location. Wow considering EMC bought DSSD for $1B+ and had another $500 million into it this should count as a huge writedown (of course the senior EMC mgmt idiots that made that deal are still all there). Only one manager left that is from EMC, and it's someone nobody liked anyways. Severence package was very good, so almost everyone layed off is super happy. Dell just uses China JDMs for all designs, so engineers are just glorified babysittters these days.

You can have the DSSD perfromance in a plain R7415 for a fracture of the price.
No use for such an overpriced product anymore, right decision to flatten it.
And btw only an extremely small number of customers needs that performance in an external box now and in the mid-term future.
Many of us in engineering got notified 9/13 with our last day 9/20.
The package for individuals with many years service and age have up to 1 years pay and 2 years health insurance.
There is a clause that you can apply for a Dell job but you'll forfeit the package.
The count was somewhere around 50 with maybe 10 or so left (not sure if they let others go that were in the santa clara office). As I said in original post package was great so no complaints. And yes I liked Bill Moore too, but we were doing fine after he left. The real issue is Dell and their shortsightedness as we had the highest performance storage box on the planet and cancelling D5 when they did the original layoffs was just plain stupid. Storage boxes with this type of performance will be the norm in a few years, and granted DSSD was probably a bit early in regards to what most customers needed - but the time is coming. And when it does Dell won't have anything to offer (vs being the leader), so maybe they will buy another startup in 2 years for another couple billion when they finally realize their stupidity. Originally I thought Michael Dell was smart enough to see this but apparently not.
The moment Bill Moore left, the writing was on the wall.
Sorry!
What's the count?
Sorry to hear this.
Godspeed!
Sorry for your loss. Did you get a good package at least?
Last day badges work is next Wed 9/20 and we are employed till that Friday 9/22. Of course no one is actually going to work for the next week!
Oh sad. Incidentally there's nothing showing up in "zzz0913". So probably the engineers got a notice period with the last date some 2/3 weeks from now ?
