Unfortunately, my phone was cutting out as it is wont to do, and I did not hear the effective date(s), but on a conference call today with at least 57 other participants when I logged in, we were told we are being laid off from Nuance Transcription Services.
We're supposed to be getting an email by 5:00 today, with more information.
Yes, I was one of those employees that got laid off 9-12 after hurricane Irma. I didn't even know it until a coworker told me about some email saying they were letting a lot of people go, but they were asking people to change to my shift (midnights). I totally believe part of my layoff was because I was not working because of the hurricane. A girl who I recommended for the job after I got hired, never lost her power/internet and was continuing to work and kept her job. No way I can prove my layoff due to hurricane, but in my heart I believe that was part of it.
I too was laid off on September 12th--no warning. I was angry about this, however, I got what I wanted out of Nuance. When the cyber attach happened in June, some of us were promised incentives and bonuses, but did not get them. I was angry and I stayed up until midnight and sent a scathing email to the CEO, and a few other executives. I sent them copies of the HR manager's emails that they sent out to employees reneging on the bonus deal. I got an immediate response back the next day from a Nuance corporate lawyer who looked into the situation and authorized the $1000 bonus pay which I got on 9/15/17. I called the company unethical and thieves and that I didn't trust them to send me the severance pay. I was informed by their lawyer that I would get the severance because they did not want to risk getting sued if they did not. So for those of you out there who were wronged by Nuance, send an email to the CEO and some of the executives--it worked for me.
I left Nuance a few years ago, and believe me it was the best decision I ever made. Being laid off by them is definitely a blessing in disguise. Most dishonest, deceitful company I've ever worked for.
So after reading a post from earlier today I am very interested in seeing how many of the people laid off were people actually affected by Hurricane Irma. I suspect a lot of this is due to them trying to recoup their losses from their malware hit a few months ago; having said that, however, it would be interesting to know if the majority of those laid off are in the hurricane-hit regions or have a lot of medical issues. That would be, in MT-speak "cherry-picking" in my opinion. I left the company a while back but, I think it would be a good idea for those who are being "downsized" out of a job to communicate and swap circumstances and maybe hire a lawyer, if it seems warranted, en mass.
I just received a similar phone call. I was a direct hit from hurricane Irma and have no power so wasn't in the conference call either. They have to mail me my severance package as I still have no power. Came as a complete surprise but I guess after the system hack in July they just weren't financially able to come back. Definitely a surprise but probably a blessing in disguise

I missed the conference call due to being out of town due to the hurricane and couldn't get through to HR. Nice way to reward us for working so hard to get caught up after the down time.
I was also laid off. Did any of you get the number for Human Resources? They are ignoring my emails completely. And did I understand correctly that we aren't getting paid for our PTO we had saved up?

I too was laid off. Hit by Hurricane Irma with no power and no internet get an email saying I'm laid off. Can't open it because you need internet and all I have is cellular. Get news to hear after you have been blasted by a hurricane
Although it wasn't a bad place to work, you would never know if you would have steady work! I was also laid off with no warning! Sorry way to treat employees. Very disheartening.
Same here. I missed the first minute or two of the call, but heard some thank yous and that we would receive an email by 5:00 today. I am unable to log in for work today as well. I, too, feel this may be a blessing in disguise. There had to have been a better way to handle this and not leave so many people wondering :/
I was a part of the layoff. Wanted to leave working for such an awful company anyway. Blessing in disguise.
