Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

Confirmed more layoffs happened today in Houston

i know two people for sure were affected by today's layoffs. I believe these were pre-notices, instead of the typical Monday morning. But yes, 2 that I know. Both ong term employees from early CPQ days and one from Digital acquisition.

Rumor mill had it that something BIG was going to happen yesterday (Monday the 30th), and it has not happened. As previously remarked here, though, very high-ranking execs for Houston Manufacturing were let go last Friday (yes, on a Friday!).

Meanwhile, full-time "regular" HPE direct laborers for the Houston factory are still being paid, 2 months after the big flood put Houston factory out of commission, despite not working! This is nice of HPE to pay them for not working, but... Are they going to shut down Houston manufacturing or not? We are clearly looking at conflicting signals so far!

Just "IMHO" (In My Humble Opinion), I think it is yet another case of, Meggot and Minions like to have high-powered meetings all day, but NO ONE likes to actually make a DECISION... They might be held accountable for it!

You can attach receipts in off or jpg files in the expense reporting tool. I wouldn't call it too crazy. They've bee wacky about expenses in the past couple years.

Re: pictures of meals. I have never heard/seen that. Some managers would tell how much per day could be spent on meals but that was the extent. I don't even know how that would be added to a TRAVEL/EXPENSE report.

Off topic - but related to HPE Houston. I was told by someone recently laid off from HPE Houston that when employee's submit their travel expense reports - if meals are included - they have to submit pictures of the meals. Is this true? Heard this from someone that doesn't BS.

Any word on lay offs in Boise?

"Stuck here... Too close to retirement to move to another city, and yank up roots and family and friends connections... In many cities where HPE workers work, you can work ONLY for HPE, or become a greeter at Walmart... There are NO other well-paying jobs available! ... Plus, the high-tech world is resistant to hiring us geezers...Gotta stick with what we have, or not much of anything, in other words..."

What a freaking loser mentality. What city are you referring to? Houston? Fort Collins? Boise? Plenty of jobs elsewhere.... if you have skills and willing to work. Problem is "geezers" at HPE are self-entitled brats who think you should get big money for producing nothing of value. They couldn't get a job anywhere else, yet HPE and Meg are the bad guy for laying them off. LOL.

The biggest myth HP people tell themselves is that Bill and Dave would never lay off anyone. BS: Bill and Dave would have never tolerated your lazy a-- entitlement; people back then produced new products and ideas and worked hard. All you care about is sleeping through the day long enough to get Medicare.

If HPE workforce were a horse, they'd been shot years ago. Only hope that company has is to layoff everyone from HP pre-merger and hope new blood can inject some new ideas.

"Really guys after reading all these comments about all of the layoffs and management on this site for almost 6 months, why in God's name are you still with this company ?"

Word just now that top-level MFG execs in Houston were laid off today (yes, Friday! Monday being sacred for layoffs no longer holds). I am told that some of these execs were good folks and very hard-working, so this is a shame... Do NOT work your patootie off for HPE, and expect any decent payback, is the lesson here!

This makes it look way-way bleak for manufacturing in Houston... Two massive floods in less than 2 years is just TOOOO much to take! The Houston MFG worker bees will likely be let go "en masse", by the following (below) analysis... Assuming ANY reason or rational behavior by the Meggot-level management, which may often be a mistaken assumption...

1) If any significant fraction of Houston MFG is to be kept, it would make sense to lay off the lower levels first, so that the higher levels could say who are the good worker bees, and who are not. Meggot-level management doesn't know ANY of the worker bees, so this would be the way to go. That is, IF Meggot and Minions have sufficient humility to realize that they do not know EVERYTHING, which may actually not be the case! (Humility is perhaps totally absent; Upper management is perhaps clueless, condescending, and conceited, as I have heard it said).

2) Because higher levels are being ditched first, it may be safe to assume that the lower levels will follow (see above). Also, perhaps Meggot and Minions don't want higher levels of management in Houston left in Houston , to try and defend the helpless workers bees, that is, because some of the higher-level (but not top-level) managers are actually good people, who just MIGHT try and help out (defend) the worker bees! And that is the LAST thing that Meggot and Minions want!

There are tons and tons and TONS of former Compaqers at HPE (and HPI) Houston, still slaving away. DECers? Not so much...

PS, there are HP-legacy folks who say that "Compaq bought HP with HP's money" largely because of lots of Compaq big-wigs, staying big-wigs, after HP bought Compaq. I find that funny because, all that is old, is new again!

When Compaq bought DEC, they said, for the same kinds of reasons, that "DEC bought Compaq with Compaq's money". Lots of ex-DEC bigwigs kept their big wigs post-buyout, will many Compaq big-wigs lost theirs (not that I ever cried in my beer over that, being always a peon myself).

I actually heard that there were lots of cases of DEC big-wigs awarding each other fat promotions and raises, after the buyout was announced but not completed, by the way... Same old same old, meet the new boss, same as the old boss... The rich get richer, and the poor are allowed to eat cake!

Wow those people hanged on for all this time from the DEC and Compaq days. I hope they can move on with their lives.
