"cherrypicked deadwood" - you obviously do not know what happened...
If it were a true layoff, whole teams would be let go and not cherrypicked deadwood.
A true layoff, not perf based, IMHO
From the article: "Seems like performance has nothing to do with it," one Tesla employee told CNBC under the condition of anonymity. "Those terminated were generally the highest paid in their position," this person said, suggesting that the firings were driven by cost-cutting.
Apparently, those people don‘t understand how performance evaluations work. The highest-paid employees also get the toughest targets. So if they don‘t achieve these targets, they get fired. That‘s why a large portion of high-paid employees are included in any performance based layoff.
