Thread regarding Marathon Oil Corp. layoffs

Older workers have been culled, who's next?

Age discrimination is not the only illegal employment practice at MRO. Unfortunately, most who have been discriminated against were “released” some time ago. (Yes. I said, ‘released!’ Ultimately, it’s like an escape from prison or some other frightening institution!)

Anyway, due to family, health and/or other financial obligations, many of those individuals couldn’t afford to “fight the good fight” and take the company on via the legal system. Marathon counted on and continues to counts on this being the case!

Not to worry. The company will always find more victims, particularly during lean financial times. Oh! Like now!

Be aware and document the heck out of everything you do. If something is said or done that doesn’t seem right, make a note of the incident including the date, time and “players”, even if you weren’t directly involved.

Keep these records at home as they may prove useful in the event you are targeted!

Just sayin’...

Excellent point by @OFdz0RQ-16lxk.

MRO could care less. They've openly discriminated for years and weren't shy about saying that the higher level and supervisory positions were saved "for the young engineers fresh out of college." When they had the first major layoff, they drew a line and took out a majority of those who were over 50 and/or within 2 years of vesting. There are several in HR who will hopefully one day be held accountable for their egregious lack of integrity and workplace ethics.

FYI: "Workforce Matters" is the author of the Living Our Values Report thread posted several months ago.

Post ID is: @OFdz0RQ

(The "zero" before the "RQ" in the posting ID appears on the original Posting as a zero with a line through it. I don't have that option on my computer.)

Thanks “Anonymous” for bringing to the forefront a response I authored in the Living Our Values thread. (That thread was originated by another brave soul several months ago.)

I like the title of this thread!

To all: I submitted a post much earlier this morning. Interesting that now it is nowhere to be seen!

Can you guess who’s been messin’ around in this store?!

I’m going to try and post it again to see how long it remains on the site.

I say go after them for age discrimination if indeed it’s true. If you’ve worked for them several years and all of a sudden you get a low rating, it’s pretty obvious. It’s worth “several thousand” for MRO to settle immediately than to go through suit and publicity. Most companies have an amount they will pay if you challenge them without even needing a lawyer.
