Disclaimer - I am not with tesla. I work for a company that frequently has layoffs and a lively board here. I am just chiming in on the recent news that Tesla has been laying off folks recently. Anyhow, the company claims that the cuts are 'performance review' based and that they are getting rid of low performers. If you are with Tesla continue reading: this is just a begining. They always start with this, they will tell you that low performers will be affected, but they will force managers to go hard on workers and to expand the group of low performers. Once they are done with this they will offer a voluntary separation program (VSP) where you get paid to leave, so if you are planning to leave it'd be good to take money and jet like ASAP.
Since 'low performers" and VSP folks will not fill the quota, they will start laying off in waves - they will plan out based on impacts and start cutting into the meat of the company. Now, you guys may be able to turn things around (what I think about the prespect to do so is irrelevant) which might prevent the last stage - we'll have to wait and see how things play ot for your guys at Tesla.
Nonetheless, hang in there and good luck.
