Thread regarding GE Digital layoffs

Fire Bill Ruh

The GE Digital story is really a shame. The mission and vision were correct. But the #1 mistake that doomed the whole thing was choosing Bill Ruh to run it. He's invisible as a leader in San Ramon. He can't keep executives, which causes reorg after reorg. If Digital has any hope of surviving, Ruh has to go. Meanwhile, his ineptitude is probably going to mean a lot of jobs lost in the near future.

GE Digital is the best place to try new tools (without any technologies). The new team takes a lead and say about few tools (famous in the market) to use and change the project. There is not single successful came out so far. Predix (called "Gia" before and called "DSP" before that ; ) is a joke. How can it be a platform to have a wrapper on Apache Karaf? GE Digital is well money spent, decorated coffin to set in grave finally.

Here's a rundown on some GE Digital execs from someone who was there:

  • Bill Ruh is a snake oil salesman and could seel ice cream to an Eskimo, or con a Fortune 10 exec into wasting $4B on a pipe dream.

  • Brad Surak, COO, proved the Peter Principal x 3. He rose to his level of incompetence, but in his case he managed to get 3 levels above his limit of competence.

  • Paul Rogers, the original head of Engineering, after completely screwing up Release 1.0 of Predix: instead of being sued for incompetence was given an award at the annual GE gathering of execs.

  • Chris Weitz, the head of strategy, was a mean-spirited, self-absorbed, over-the-hill curmugeon who actually thought people cared about his opinions.

  • Kate Johnson (or is it Jackson) probably thought all the above people knew what they were talking about. I think she made it out in one piece.

When will they spin off Digital? Will business get stuck with high cost from a new service provider?

The only thing I know about Bill Ruh are his congratulatory emails to his staff when they leave GE.

If Flannery retrenches Digital to focus mostly on internal productivity, Fowler will take over.

That's not all Ruh's fault. That's team work.

Bill Ruh is a complete joke - he has wasted so much of the company's money with nonsensical plans. He definitely needs to be shown the door.

Gary and Larry were the best team. Greg was okay but Gary was great and Larry was phenomenal. When Drumgoole somehow beat Larry, I knew it was gonna be bad. And then Bill Ruh, lol
