Thread regarding Miner Houston layoffs

Not a good place to work

Miner grew too fast and lost control. Customer service declined to a point where customers are taking their business elsewhere, forcing Miner to begin laying people off. Morale is in a steady, rapid decline as employees are expected to work very late (in some cases, into the following morning) and to not complain. There have been serious injuries in the last couple years including one which required hospitalization. Vehicle registrations and EZTag accounts don't always get paid resulting in employees being pulled over and receiving tickets. The workplace is not safe as there is no safety program other than watching standard OSHA videos upon being hired and being scheduled for Houston Area Safety Council (HASC) training. The HASC training is very general and an annual refresher is required to keep it current; however, Miner is not consistent in scheduling employees to attend the annual refresher. In some cases, employees have gone over 1-1/2 years past the due date for refresher training, despite those employees continually reminding the office. It was predicted awhile back by a Miner employee that they would put themselves out of business due to the way that the company is being run and it appears that that is what is happening. Around July 2017, a coworker called me and told me that he and 3 others had just been laid off. Yesterday (10/3/17), another person reported that Miner Houston has now laid off nearly 60% of their employees. Personally, I would trust the former case since I consider that coworker trustworthy. As for the latter, it is technically hearsay so I cannot fully trust the figure of 60%; however, I would not be surprised if it was true. After all, if the news of layoffs is reaching the person who reported it to me, it means that it is a fairly large topic of discussion... a topic that is most likely at least a little serious.
