Thread regarding Air Canada layoffs

Get out of IT while you can

new CIO hates IT, will pimp everyone in IT out of a job. starts with cracking the door open for third party to support new initiatives, but flood gates will open and come with "bumps in the road". If you are in IT, get out now or suffer for years to come. path of destruction can be traced back through enbridge, westjet... brings in their own people to execute (employees) - not to save money but to provide cost certainty. starts out by outsourcing/offshoring operations re. break fix, but offshore outsourcing leads to break, break, break. reservation system will be screwed pissing off customers, just like at westjet. new cio will drag down entire organization in their quest for personal gain. the pendulum blade torture of change will commence again for everyone in AC...

Very surprised the ArriveCan fiasco didn’t point to her. Or maybe it did.

The troubles Boeing is going through now reminds me of the time CD ( or CL ) was CIO of Enbridge. Accountants running a plane maker instead of engineers is as catasrophic as a biologist managing an IT department. Both bragged about having MBA's but were highly unqualified to run a technical operation.

Did she leave Air Canada on her own or was she booted out ? Now she has gone on to destroy the government. She is either very lucky or has some really deep connections. Gives me more reason not to vote for Trudeau so she can be replaced.

CDL is a natural Witch and Warlock of IT Department. You will always be remembered by the IT world, and one day, the nature itself will get back on you, on what you did to thousand of employees and their families.

I feel bad for the AC employees for what the company is going through now but AC has been jinxed since the hiring of you know who.

The posts in this thread have been nothing but prescient. The CD regime in AC has been catastrophic. 2 weeks after the new reservation system was launched, it is still in the dumps. Hopefully, this thread gets to the highest level in AC so she can be called to account.

Another Dyer victim here. We complained about how the new system was going to fail and it was so obvious to see why. They just ignored us and eventually fired us ... and now they are paying the price because their system is failing as expected. They deserve it and their shareholders should make them pay the price. They'll still fill their pockets with millions before they go though. With such a bad reputation, it makes sense that she would change her name ... but that just proves that her priorities are self-ish.

Looks like her LinkedIn account is gone. She must have deleted it to hide something. Too late though, a lot of people have seen it and know that she is not qualified to be CIO. AC execs you have seen enough of her incompetence so time to move her out. It's never too late to fix mistakes.

Well looks like her track record is 0 for 3. Westjest. Enbringe. And now air Canada. Going live with a system that was not ready and people not trained was fully her doing. Miss D (or whatever your name is now) maybe you need to go back to the science world. You are NOT a businesswoman and faaaar from being a CIO. AC execs, you need to hire for competency - not charisma or being well dressed. You was lucky to have dedicated employees you care about the company. Get rid of CD before she gets rid of what makes you strong - your people.

Nobody in Enbridge IT remembers her with fondness. Everyone knows what a disastrous job she did in Enbridge. She was cold-blooded when she fired so many good and talented people. I am sure many in Enbridge would like to know how she is doing at Air Canada. Hoping any AC IT employee would share tidbits on how she is running IT in Air Canada.

With 2 major outages in less than a year under her watch, it only means that the CIO is incompetent. Firing her is the most logical thing for the CEO to do. That was her way when bad things happen in Enbridge. She should get a taste of her own medicine.

CD does not have an IT background. It is really a big mystery how she became CIO in Enbridge. Looks like Air Canada is cut out for her. She will not know what to do with the lack of process tools and will most likely hire a company based offshore to give her answers.

Air Canada always was a c-ap place to be in IT.

The only ticketing tool is email.

The only place requirements are "Documented" is excel.

No version control tools.

No coding tools unless you can download for free.

And on more than one occasion they wanted us to work as ticket agents or flight attendants in order to strike break. I'm so glad I quit.

The results are starting to come in. I used to be an Air Canada Customer but this is unlikely to continue as their web site no longer works for me. Complaining seems to do no good most likely because there is nobody there able to do anything any more.

Catherine Dyer's outsourcing project has just been called a failure in Enbridge. She, along with Mel Crocker, architected the whole thing. This has resulted in massive demoralization and major loss of talent which will take many years if not decades to recover. Any Air Canada IT employee should start lobbying their execs to review the hiring of Dyer before it is too late. She will destroy the culture in IT. Call any Enbridge IT employee still remaining to get a factual account of her.

I here that her partner in crime MC will be joining A.C., CEO do yourself a big favor, throw these goons out before it's late, you will end up losing all your great talent.

I see CD (the new-ish CIO) hawking jobs on her LinkedIn status updates. As a past Enbridge employee I can attest to the fact that she is horrible to work anywhere near, creates a environment of fear and uncertainty, promotes rampant nepotism, and single handedly can destroy an organization culturally. I would recommend those within her sphere of influence to brace for impact! And those considering joining Air Canada to take a pass.

Giddy up... the hillbilly from Calbilly will end up an epic failure, people will suffer (released without cause) as the IT model spreads across the entire company.
