Sneaky way to avoid raises

It looks like everyone is being rated lower than they should be to avoid pay increases. My IPP has no negatives on it and plenty of superlative language describing how "amazing" I have been, but that only results in a rating of "Effective/Achieves" and barely comes with any raise at all. A fellow professor who also gets high marks on course evaluations was rated as needing improvement with no real reasons given, even though he has been with DeVry for many years and has always had great reviews from students. Something smells fishy. We wonder if some of us are being set up for termination.

I've noticed the same thing, @OO2SkzD-fbfa. I wonder if anybody knows if there is a way to challenge this?

They postponed the announcement while they are dealing with the areas affected by the hurricanes. I am eager to hear about the next poorly planned strategy of arbitrary expectations and unrealistic goals. All management will tell me is that it's nothing that affects me personally, but I am even skeptical of that.

What happened to "new details of the plan" coming NEXT week (which next week is that??) that was hinted in the letter??????? I am so tired of nobody knowing what is going on and IF they do no one communicates it. What is the PLAN? Why keep putting off the closing of 38 locations that cannot put more than 5 students in their classes? Why keep supporting an unsustainable business model when overall student enrollment is down and DeVry continues to lose 20-23% quarter over quarter over quarter??

HR department? What HR department? All employees are now working with no job descriptions, no review system and being held accountable for whatever top management thinks is a go for the last 3/4 months. It's an organization that has weak leadership.

Ratings are on a curve. Managers can't give all their employees a good grade, so some people get lower grades than they deserve. Sad but true.

Report your challenge to HR and document that.

if it is who you say, a couple of things. She's ambitious; she won't be where she is for long. Administration, not the classroom, is her real milieu. If I were her supervisor, I'd be nervous. But there's also this; she's committed, and she believes in the mission; students come first. And...if you're counting on the financial rewards or even the emotional reassurance a favorable review might yield, then you've miscalculated. You'll find neither there. You shouldn't depend on others for validation.

it will probably be public information when adtalem files the sec filings about change in leadership. "golden parachutes" are listed in those types of documents.

Do you think Paul and Esbenshade are walking away with million dollar severance packages and that's why we don't get raises?

one thing i find remarkable is how they never hire a person outside of the DV. what's the point of this enforcer of student centric scheduling to be given the prez. spot? the letter sent today seemed borderline incoherent. wondering what new details of the "plan" would be next week that's hinted in the letter.

The possible challenges to outright lies and fraud include (a) removing the managers who are committing the fraud, or (b) suing the organization. These reviews are evidence of criminal activity within the corporation, so make sure to keep good records for possible Title VII litigation. These false reviews are also securities fraud as defined by the Major Fraud Act of 1988 and Title 18 of the U.S. Code. The SEC should be very interested in fraud of this nature. It is a good idea to report these false reviews to the SEC as the reviews are deliberate misrepresentations of facts. You also may have a very good case for civil action based on corporate fraud. A good attorney will be able to help you out.

It's useless to protest. One person in the Center for Teaching Excellence is responsible for this, and she is very protected!
