Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

What do you expect?

The company is run by management who have no clue on how to change with the changing times. Never came up with strategies to be in Cloud or to acquire good company. We bought Claraview which was a disaster.. then the "think Big" which was over priced for a small company with 8M in revenue.

Teradata management then pissed off 900M worth of acquisitions which were worthless. Now all we do is churn out powerpoints and get rid of resources who sell and work and are old. Guess what this company won't survive in 5 years. Look at the management not one guy has management skills nor technical skills.

What do you expect from a company which is a technology company run by disastrous non technical folks. The only game they know is hide behind BAIN and keep letting go of good resources.

This company is a sinking ship. When I started with the company I was told I was doing a good job. But I still got abused, every time they need someone to travel I was told I needed to go. I missed out on birthdays, holidays and anniversaries. So that my 2 coworkers can have there's. When I would tell them I have plans with my family I got told welcome to Teradata. I was also told that I was that I had only been with the company for 1 year and they where with the company for 20+ years, that they paid there dues and didn't. This went on for 5 years and the abuse got even worse. I was called a bunch of names and was told I couldn't take vacation during the summer or Thanksgiving and Christmas cause they wanted to spend time with there family. My 1st wife got sick of me being gone all the time and we went through a divorce. I got no support from my coworkers all I was told it's not there problem. I went to our supervisor and talked to him about all the abuse I went through. Big Mistake cause I was quickly moved to a different position where the abuse started all over again. This Time I was forced to work 9-14 days straight. When I went to management over the fact they are breaking the labor laws for my state they then made me work 7 days straight every other week(was told they did that to accommodate my child visitation from my 1st marriage) . I got burnt out I went to a manager he told me if I wanted a better schedule I need to back to court and adjust my child visitation. I told my boss that I would loos my child he then told me work is more important then family. Yes I have been looking for a new job but when you are black listed it makes it really hard.

After many years in development, I left Teradata R&D 6 years ago. It was apparent then what was starting to happen. Instead of low level database engine management slowly being backfilled/replaced by people with appropriate technical strengths, managers with 3rd party application management(?) experience started being hired.

I was afraid if I had to go to another Agile standup meeting and listen to a bunch of "make talk" dribble, I would go up to the 4th floor of building A and jump.

It's good to see how much better the situation has become.

Look at the sales leadership and PS leadership... It is same group of people same bus drivers who bought us here and VL is trusting them to save us.. what a joke. You can't be playing musical chairs all the time and expect a different result. Twenty quarters of disastrous results and board is waiting for Christmas. PS VP's have driven results down for last three years and we are a Analytics company. Instead of laying off good employees if the management had focused on developing capabilities this company could be saved.

Every word you said is so true. Trying to change engineering practices for good, like better planning, better performance standards, is viewed as an offence. If you suggest such things, management don't want to hear, you are in their bad list. HR and managers instead of resolving issue and providing a healthy encouraging environment say, "May be Teradata is not a right fit for you" or "In your shoes I would look for other opportunities".

It used to be good company. Now it's run by old incompetent a--holes. Good people are either leaving or being fired by political bastards. And the biggest most incompetent person is the head of HR. Goodness. I agree the company won't last for a year and no one wants to buy this expensive sh--.
