Why are customers leaving our stores empty handed?

It's simple, we are now way too expensive for most folks. I just got an earful from a customer who wanted a rangefinder. Our price is $189.99 and he left the store to go buy the exact same one from Amazon for $109.00. I hear it all the time, customers are willing to spend a little more because they like our stores, but they think we are out of control, and I agree with them most of the time.

We are done as a company. Nobody trusts us - step back and take a look at our stores they are a disgrace. People are coming in to find sale items - we are the next gander mountain

I recently bought a big ticket item at the Home Depot and they matched the Amazon price. IMHO stores will be forced to match Amazon or die a slow death. The days of customer loyalty are over, especially when there is no customer service.

Simple answer in today's world which cabelas didn't seem to take seriously and were inept to the future...better products and cheaper elsewhere. Very simple actually but cabelas couldn't figure it out nor keep up. Very immature and naive company.

In regards to the comment about price matching, We were told by our manager a couple of days ago that we don't price match with Amazon.

Cabela's has always been a little more expensive than others, the difference was the customers were "willing" to spend the extra money because they could come into our stores and talk to people who actually used the products and could explain the pro's and con's of them. Unfortunately we (cabela's) have become nothing more than a "Big Box" retailer and have few people left who have the time or the ability to actually help the customer (most times you can only point and grunt for the customer), we're lucky if there is an Outfitter in each department (most times not). On most days our store runs on a "skeleton" crew, we have a hard time finding people to apply (or make it past the drug test) stay more than a month or two or get caught stealing - then of course there's Corp. that do stupid things like pay out hiring bonuses before the Holiday's are over so as soon as they receive their bonus they quit (wonder if they're dumb enough to do that two years in a row)
