Gosh All. We're so sorry some of you are disgruntled. I thought it was all explained so well. We have plans for the UW. We want to be a Tier I University. We simply need to pay our Faculty and Researchers the highest salaries possible. And if that means some of you have to go, that's just the way it has to be. You know, if you're going to log a forest, some chips are going to fly ! I am so sorry, but the University of Washington has aspirations; we need to be in the Top 1%. And that means, some of you have to go. Some of you have to be sacrificed so the rest of us can live in luxury! It's really too bad, but that is the way it has to be. This a new order; this isn't the old ways of doing things, where we worked together to build a strong society. No, this is a new America. This is Batista America, where we gather the riches of the country and distribute them amongst the most deserving, the 1 %. And if some of you thought you were part of that picture and now you find you aren't, well, that is the way it's going to be from now on. Happy Thanksgiving :)

What is happening to you guys at Capital Projects is a subversive implementation of the Scott Walker Program from Wisconsin. Cut salary and benefits of State Employees. The reason why all you guys in your 50’s and 60’s were laid off was because you guys earned more, (had climbed up the salary ladder), had legacy pension plans that are no longer offered, lot of annual vacation, (supposedly a perk to offset the crummy salaries) and lots of saved-up sick leave. By sacking you guys, the University of Washington saves a ton of money. Those people in their 30’s don’t have that saved-up sick leave, they don’t get PERS Pensions, and their salary is lower. It’s really nasty, but that is what they are doing. China honors its elders. The University of Washington takes away their jobs, health insurance, and kicks them to the curb! Don’t worry, we know it’s coming are way too.

Plain lies? No facts to support the claim?

Who the hell are you ? Nothing is a lie here; but, perhaps the Seattle Times should look into the matter and publish an article on the topic. And regarding "entitlement?" No, laying off a group of people in their late 50's and 60's who have been trained to perform a function for the state is not addressing entitlements. It is pulling the rug out of a group of dedicated employees who have developed a skill-set which really is only primarily needed by the state. And the UW doesn't pay all that great when compared to private industry; often people work there for the "stability." Well, if the University of Washington's policy is to deep 6 their employees when they hit their 50's and 60's, then the impact will be that no one with any true skills will want to work for the State. There is some real short term thinking going here, not to mention unethical.

Isn't it interesting how the most massive layoff in uw capital office history never made it to the Seattle Times or into any other major news stories. This is a $3M hit to the people that lost their jobs. It's the same as most government jobs. It becomes an entitlement. People normally stay forever. Something had to give. The writing has been on the wall for many years, but it still rude to give people 45 days notice. How would the IVP and like it if there was no money for his mortgage? What goes around comes around. Stay tuned.

Capital Planning & Development just layed off 40. Many who have dedicated 20 or more years of service to the UW and close to retirement. Those people have been replaced with younger people and those who are "liked" by leadership will be hired back through fake, non-exsistent, advertised positions. The most unscrupulous people ever. UW's reputation is tarnished because of their actions forever by many.

People who were pulled from other departments to work on the workday transition were laid off even though they were told they would be sent back to their original departments. CO-Motion laid off 9 people. My department is currently restructuring. When layoffs happen, it will be in January. Still very hush hush about it. Most of it though isn't laying off people. It's not replacing people who leave and dividing up the work between the remaining people. The department next to us had 7 people leave in the last year and weren't approved to get any replacements for them. Workload redistributed.
