Thread regarding CGG Veritas layoffs

We have way too many levels of useless management

It is true and because of this CGG will never become a profitable company. They will be always in debt because they have too many levels of management and affiliated non-technical staffs to do their paper works and travel bookings. How could they make money with too many layers of managers especially under the current market condition when they are not getting enough projects and when their bid on a project slashed to half of what they used to bid on in the past. For example, in one of their section there are less than 5 technical staffs but with a team leader, one or more marketing and sale manager, technical manager, director, vice president, president, senior vice president, CEO.

Agreed, @OkjPLZ9-4mzy. Just trimming the fat in management ranks could do wonders for CGG. Not that it will happen, mind you. We know who is always safe, whether they are useful or not.

A few years back CGG had an internal audit conducted of it's workforce structure. At that time they found they had close to 1000 managers who had one or LESS employees reporting directly to them. ONE OR LESS !!!!?????? How can you be a manager if you have no one to manage. The problem with this is that within the France (not just CGG) the term, of manager is held as a status. If you have become a manager you have achieved something. In this case however all they have achieved was to become a top heavy management company, where each level of management became more and more overloaded but less and less accountable. Streamlining their structure would greatly improve their ability to function, cut costs and make more people accountable and ultimately improve their performance and the company's. But it will never happen.

THERE IS A SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR SPECIAL PROJECTS WHOM HAS NO STAFF UNDERNEATH .

IN THE CURRENT FINANCIAL STATE HIS WORKLOAD COULD EASILY BE ABSORBED BY ANOTHER SVP.

CGG should and must be gone for healthy seísmic market, also because employees in this company have no life due to their work.

I second the agreement in the lat post. It would do wonders. But to make CGG a success (for the first time in Seismic Services) it needs a fundamental change in culture and attitude. How many signs do you need to tell you that things are going backwards? Only a complete change will point them in a forwards direction. Surely for a company with marine vessels this concept is easy enough to understand!
