Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

My background include almost 30 years of experience at Cabela's. During this time I have seen so many city council meetings where the Cabela's executive had attended city council meetings and stated policies over the years which was extremely important to Sidney and Cabela's. The executive team of Cabela's had a good and valuable discussion with the city council (which now is outlawed) and policies were discussed and voted on. What is your background and am I right you do not think the open discussion between not only Cabela's but I would say probably every large business located in Sidney in the last couple of decades has had no benefit to the business or Sidney. they were basically wasting the city time and the business time attending the council meeting TO DISCUSS issues in a open forum with the city council. I do not agree and I think these communications in a open meeting has been an important part of the different businesses who has located in Sidney.

I am reminded of a finance teacher I had in college, his statement was this, "Governments whether city, state, or federal are takers, they don't produce anything for the economy, they don't give back to the people they tax, and they don't have a fiscal sense to produce growth". Back then, we thought he was over-board in his thinking, but now he really was a forward thinker in so many ways.

The good hard working honest people of Sidney are nothing more than a ATM to the scoundrels who are in positions of leadership. To fund thier addiction of tax and spend.

What bothers me most, and has over time is the simple, smug attitude that the city has concerning the tax dollars we give them. We need people who deeply respect the dollars that are available, respect that there are limited dollars, and that the residents and future residents respect that the taxes are being spent in a way that is responsible and not overburdened for the citizens. Bottom line, respectful, honorable citizens serving the community with passion, selfless interest with a vision of a healthy community that will not only survive, but prosper.

Unfortunately it is very unmotivating when the current city leaders are so dysfunctional to think that Sidney can continue as is into oblivion. And think about it, if you owned a business that you wanted to grow, is this the type of environment you would want to move too?

I respect your opinion and comment, I truly hope your are wrong, but fear that you are right.

it is business as usual for Sidney, Spend with out thinking about the future. We are watching our community go up in smoke or down the drain as the case may be.

The powers to be in all levels of the local government are in a total state of denial and have chosen to ignore the problems in hopes that they will all just go away.

Already we have seen numerous small businesses fold and go else where, and the future is leaving in droves as the younger families leave in search of more secure futures and means to provide for themselves.

All the while the county and city 'ahem' leaders all cry all is well all is well. Well all is not well Having lived here my whole life i have seen ups and downs in our beloved community.

Never have i seen destruction of life and business such as this. Sidney, Cheyenne County and Cabelas will be text book examples of HOW NOT TO RUN A BUSINESS AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS.

We are to blame on one level or another, mostly for the reason we did not stand up and say enough is enough no more. Those who had the courage and fortitude to do so we vilified, destroyed and then where forced to leave as their lives became a living hell for defying those in positions of

power,

All i can say is well done well done to those who profited off of the backs of the hard working good people of Sidney. Taking your spoils saying to yourself as you look i the mirror I deserve this whilst leaving those whose have no choice to stay and those who chose to stay holding the bag and to pick up pieces of the destruction.

I think the new CFO for example share some of the blame. I think every financial advisor in American would have looked at the current situation in Sidney Nebraska and put out a instant message out no major purchase until further notice( emergency situation will be reviewed). instead of get your request out and put an allowance each year for major purchases you think you will need . Also he seen no major cuts a lot in the city budget. HOW ABOUT a LOCAL GOVERMENT WHICH WILL do AS RONALD REAGAN STATED GOVERMENT MUCH GIVE UP purchases PRIVATE CITIZEN CAN NO LONGER AFFORD. WE NEED TO REPLACE THE CITY ADMISTRATION WHICH will FOLLOW THIS PRATICE.

The ones running that town are the same ones who ran Cabela's into the ground. Raise taxes all you want, because before you know it, there will be no one left living their to pay the taxes and Sidney will be a ghost town. As soon as Bass Pro turns off the lights on Cabela's, the "Closed" signs will be going up on the other businesses in town as well. I forcast major foreclosures and vacant homes. It's a shame that the so called leadership of Cabela's would just sh#t on an entire community this way just to line their own pockets.

I remember first moving to Sidney - having come from a small town from another state, I was quite simply blown away by the taxation both on real estate an on vehicles. What made it truly unbelievable was the level of services provided for the high rate. I was astonished with the lack of services for the rate and beyond that the "greater than though" attitude out of the majority of city employees. I heard from numerous people that a job with the city was a very coveted job indeed and there were no shortage of employees. In the area that I had moved from, the city services and employees were not entitled nor did they have the budget to over spend - they made it work with far less yet delivered more. It was crazy then - think where it is going to be now with all of the people moving on. I simply did not nor never will understand why the great people of Sidney put up with the taxation and the attitude of the city. Nothing will change until we make them change via our votes.

I think that on the 150th anniversary of its birth, the city should return to her roots. Use eminent domain to take the new Cab building and turn it into a casino. Convert some of the hotels to brothels, add a little room to Boot Hill and voila! Sinful Sidney lives again. Maybe then we will be able to become card dealers and afford to pay our taxes.

I see this is almost an addiction to government spending by the city of Sidney. In a way this remind you of story after story of young professional athletic who receive millions and then once they retire and then their millions are gone and they have no way of living in the real world. I think most taxpayers in Sidney could write several pages of overspending policies by the local government in Sidney and have a hard time naming one area the city of Sidney government spending is on level in comparison with other rural communities in Nebraska. It is really hard to justify the expense of the new CFO positon with the city of Sidney. It becomes a lot more differ cult to justify when you read the new plan to deal with the crisis in Sidney (which almost every news outlet in American have discussed the tremendous economic disaster which loom over Sidney Nebraska) is not to discuss ways to cut city expenses . instead as I read the newspaper the CFO to adopt a policy to begin planning for new purchases of large items and which I assume will begin to raise your taxes immediately and assuring the citizens THE CITY OF SIDNEY NEBRASKA HAS NO PLANS TO REDUCE CITY PROGRAMS.
