There is a watching IBM post on facebook that says it's already on. Immediate termination this time (pretty much, last day of work is this month!) with two months severance pay and six months of health insurance at the same rate you're paying now, then cobra for 18 months (per the law, and at a significant rate increase of course)
I have not heard anything about this, and so far, we have not been affected. Can anybody confirm if this is true or false?
Immediate termination? I guess the traditional three-month zombie period is over. But at least we get two months of severance pay rather than the previous one month.
Use the two months of severance to relax over the summer as you ease into the job search. Don't stress. Take it easy and drink some Kool-Aid. IBM is a sinking ship and the sooner you leave, the better off you will be. You don't want to waste your prime years at a company headed towards irrelevance and obsolescence. Set your sights on a cutting-edge company where your skills will be put to better use and where management actually appreciates their employees' efforts.
Many former IBMers informed me that life is much better after you leave Big Blue. Keep a positive attitude and everything will fall into place. You will be much happier after leaving IBM.
The watching IBM post on facebook was in reference to the employees that were on the gearbox thing (which is when you get told your job position is no longer and you have xx days to find a new one internally) were told it's closed out now and their last day is July 24 (monday) and they get two months severance. It's a new project called PMA (portfolio management action) which I'm sure is just the start of it (cutting the gearboxed folks). I would expect that PMA also encompasses the next big RA, which should be by end of this month (July). Sounds like folks are already being cut aside from the gearboxed folks.
I agree. I am in an area where a lot of great colleagues have been dumped, and now there is basically no one left but me. If there is one more RA it will be me. So cut me, or tell me I am safe, but stop torturing me.
Hopefully the cuts will be swift and strategic instead of the "death of a thousand cuts". I work with good people here who don't deserve to be left hanging for months and months wondering if their career is over.

Can confirm that I was gearboxed in May and notified this week that my last day is the 24th. Watching IBM post is accurate. I was in WCP.
Gee, IBM has been heavily touting how successful WATSON is in the health care area. Guess ain't too healthy. Actually, revenue from Watson is quite poor and below expectations
