Thread regarding Giant Eagle layoffs

Giant Eagle needs better service and prices, not more sponsorships

These are challenging times in the grocery world for the best-run grocery chains. There are problems too numerous to list with leadership, starting with the simple fact that the majority of people in middle and senior leadership/management got their coveted positions because they are related to a decision-maker at GE and not because of their ability, experience or education. It must have been hard to decide who to layoff at the home office because of the in-breeding and nepotism. Maybe also look at dropping these multi-million sports team sponsorships if you want to save some cash. The shopper doesn't care if you are the official grocery store of the Pittsburgh Steelers or Cleveland Browns or the Ohio State Buckeyes they are looking for price and quality. And don't get me started on the infamous Town Hall meetings. They are carefully crafted PR /HR blitzes where all questions are required to be submitted and vetted in advance. Nothing is spontaneous or unrehearsed.

I have witnessed that anytime they want to hike the prices on one or more items that they remove if from the shelf that is after a increase the price.

I now go to Marcs down the street where I am treated very nicely and where the food is not freezer burned.

If Giant Eagle stopped the sponsorships, then Corporate employees and Executive Store Leaders would no loner be able to enjoy the free concert tickets and sporting events with there family's. See it happen week in and week out. Executive Store Leader going to every sporting event and concert imaginable, all for free! Great company Ethics!

I would also agree with you in a restructuring of corporate as well. That fat needs trimmed across the board! GE can also stop with the numerous sponsorships for every professional and college sporting event around. Pretty simple either you begin to cut cost or plan on the alternative. Have not seen them at a High School Football game yet?

Agreed 100%! I work in corporate. I won't say which department because LP most likely monitors this site. But yeah a lot of people need fired in corporate starting from the top down. The fat needs to be trimmed!

Who do you think you are? Corporate needs restructuring first! For god sake, all of these "management" titles are thrown around like cat litter. And they have just one specific function. For instance, a "scheduling optimization manager." What the f--- is that? A "training operations manager." Corporate is vastly overpaid and they need MORE cuts.

Individual Executive Store Leaders are vastly overpaid whom don't even have degrees in Management. A complete restructuring of all stores is needed starting with top positions.

Hey look, I work at giant eagle corporate. I shop mostly at Aldi's and wal-mart. I won't apologize for it either. Loyalty only goes so far. You can't beat the prices. It is what it is.

Giant Eagle is way too expensive. I guess the Shapiro's and their inner cabal need to get paid, because they sure as heck are not one of the best paying companies from top to bottom. Throw in the toxic corporate culture and back stabbing and I have had enough. I have been looking for greener pastures and ready to leave.

They said they got rid of FoodPerks because it was to confusing for the customers. Wait until they see FuelPerks Plus.
