Thread regarding Accenture layoffs

Accenture will not lose trained manpower if it does not have to

Accenture is one of the very few companies who does not believe in losing precious manpower after investing large amount in their training. The hiring and inductions costs itself is so high that they pick the best fit candidate and do everything possible to retain employees.

Even during the 2008 recession, Accenture did not terminate a single employee due to lack of business. ACN in fact used that opportunity to tweak some delivery costing variables, and started focusing more on optimal process delivery..which is why employees generally complain about packed workdays(~7 hrs of production), while their friends in other companies (including those orgns who lay off employees w.o reasons) may have only 3~4 hrs of serious work in a day.

Rationally, this assertion can be heavily challenged:

  • if the manpower is trained with relevant skills but finds it hard to get billable - there must be something else at play and then training can be discarded in decision making about laying them off;
  • if they are trained with obsolete skills, why hold onto them just because skilled in those useless skills.

Either way it doesn't hold water.

Emotionally, I could suspect it's wishful thinking.
I've been on the bench myself for too long, despite quite some effort to find a project for my level and I wish this were true, but I dread the outcome. At my daily rate, Accenture is setting me up for failure when its more than double what the market pays for the same role done in freelance because of the stringent CCI.

They have been laying off since the first year they were in business. it is part of their operating model. Remember, it isn't their fault, it is yours if you can't find a project.

Accenture is not unfamiliar with layoffs... I was laid off in 2008 due to the downturn. SF office... The day I got canned (as a Consultant, CHT) about 20 other people were let go - all of them were on the consulting side and the firm invested quite a bit in them (Analysts, Consultants and a couple of Managers)...

Accenture is a rubbish firm to work for. It is run by a---head MDs who are like old school boys and run the firm life fiefdoms. HR is puppet and ineffective. St Charles is nothing special and acts as training academy for training people on things they are never gonna do. The most unprofessional firm I have ever worked for.
