Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Get associates of their phones in Staples stores

When are store teams going to take any ownership of their own actions. I get that you need more labor but how about effectivily using what you have first. I live in a market well outside of Boston, in a city with around 10 stores. With the exception of 1, each time I go in associates are standing around on their cell phones or they are all standing together talking. How about walking the racetrack and ask the customers if they need help, how about greeting a customer as they walk in. Only area that I can consistently get help is in the CPC. They do need more help their. If you don't believe this check out our Facebook page, constant complaints about associates just standing around. Your lucky DMs/RVPs aren't reading those complaints.

...Of course, associates using their cell phones on the floor, which isn't a major issue anyway, is a moot point if there are no customers to serve, which is the case in a lot of failing west coast stores....

Simply, in order to restore profitability in retail stores, Staples first needs to figure out how to get customers to shop there again. Considering the retail bubble has burst, this isn't likely.

And a few weeks ago didn't corporate say associate's could use their phone on the floor if it was to assist customers by looking up ink and things like that? I remember a DM telling us to pull out our phones and show people how well LA worked by trying to scratch it...yeah right. Also had a tech sup that would request u pull out my phone with a broken screen to show customers that were on the fence about buying square trade. He wanted to show them what happen's when you don't have square trade and drop your phone.

As a gm I can't enforce "no phones on the sales floor" if staples does not provide secure lockers for my associates...

So basically what the OP is saying is that a DM is failing to hold their stores accountable, train, and motivate?

Most of these people can only work a maximum of 25 hours at a salary slightly above minimum wage and they don't make any commission. Pay peanuts, get monkeys.

I always wonder how many customers see me using the new RF guns and think it's just a cell phone...I'm just waiting for one to tell me to get off my cell phone lol

Lol. This is the same grammatically deficient post from the thread before. This guy thinks he's making a great point and looking for a reaction (trolling).

Very soon Staples stores will be closing forever and the cause of that is not minimum wage associates on their phones. Incompetent (like the OP) leadership killed Staples.
