Thread regarding Best Buy layoffs

70% reduction in Covert Agents

I'm getting reports from Agents that layoff calls are happening now. Apparently jobs are going to Puerto Rico.

Can't confirm how they're handling clients but I got whacked today along with majority of team. To hear others are getting our gigs really stings.

Heard all the same chatter locally about lay-offs. Now when I'm offering 25/7 support I'll have to stop saying "in house" and "american". Also probably going to drop words like "quality" and "compassionate".

Once they started pushing quantity of connects over quality of the client experience the wrtting was on the wall. After being told "3rd party will never replace you, your job is secure", then the Best Buy "merger" (take over)"rebranding". This was bound to happen. Though the timing is perfect to put Amazon in a very strong position with thier current pilot into the in-home services venue. Best Buy just handed them a skilled experienced workforce that will be used to take over that service as ita already known Best Buy is nothing more than an electronics showroom, where people go to see what they want to purchase, hold it, then go home and purchase online from other retailers. I don't understand the logic behind this move, other than cheaper labor. Remeber Hubert you only get what you pay for, and you just effectively handed Amazon your in-home service revenue on a silver platter, its only a matter of time before the "covert" services go the same way.

It's complete BS. Our main focus was US B

based remote agents..our clients had piece of mind knowing they were getting a person on the phone who was American. Now they will have people from over seas. This will tarnish the Geek Squad brand. There is not culture left in Geek Squad. Good luck my covert friends who got to keep their jobs. I give you all 6 months before you are replaced as well.

Congratulations Best Buy you managed to kill Geek Squad and hand over your biggest strength to Amazon in one fell swoop. Shady as hell you sell your plans as "US support" only to outsource overseas, really looking out for your customers there. Enjoy your last two years (maybe three, you know - for clearance) before you're only remembered as an entry on Wikipedia next to Circuit City.

I'm getting axed as well after working here over 15 years, always been a top performer. I know someone that was with the original Geek Squad before Best Buy bought them and started as one of the original 20 agents with remote support, been with Geek Squad over 20 years, axed. I hear all the hate about Trish Walker but I doubt anyone thought she was hired for any other reason than to begin the outsourcing process. Hubert Joly and the other guys at the top chose this, obviously to float the stock price for another quarter or two. Geek Squad used to be more than a name though, I give it two years, then expect them to sacrifice Trish Walker for their failed policies and practices. RIP Geek Squad.

I'm one of the "lucky" ones that was retained and not laid off. Said I was chosen because I'm a hard worker and been here for a while. However, they are forcing a set schedule which completely conflicts with my school schedule. No exceptions. They say my choice is to resign or find a position elsewhere with NO severance pay since I was officially kept on..... Thanks Best Buy for the royal stab in the back.

Absolutely disgusting. Jobs going to outsourced workforce. I hope Congress passes the anti outsourcing law and BBY gets slammed with major fines.

It's not PR, it's definitely Philippines. Accenture. I had 10 years of service. I have to report to work for 2 more months with a broken spirit to get my severance. I can't even apply for new jobs yet.

I just saw this site on FB, my first post here...

After 12 years with BBY I was axed two days ago. It's a shame, the way how it was handled was pretty bad, there were people with more tenure than I have.

I wish you all good luck...

They are going with Accenture with cheap(poor quality) labor from the Phillipines. I used to work for Geek Squad Online Support and got out because it seemed like more and more they were using the third party labor and it was only a matter of time. I hate to see that this happened to may of my fellow co-workers.

They are not going to PR, Accenture in the Philippines will pick up the slack. Classless move by BBY, and I hope they get what the deserve.

Puerto Rico has the same labor laws as California. To work a covert position you cannot live in Puerto Rico, Californi, Washington and two other states due to the work labor laws.

I use to be a covert agent a year ago before leaving for a different job and was part of the CRT group who had to support Accenture and we always asked "are we training and helping are replacements?" and they always said no but always had a vibe they would they do this. From heavy experience dealing with them they are terrible and have very very little experience or knowledge but they are cheap. I hope for all that are affected by this that you land something better and wish you all nothing but the best.

I don't think the jobs are going to Puerto Rico, the services manager of geek squad used to work for accenture. They have been using the Philippines for some time now to take calls and help clients from what I hear.

Happening to my brother after 11 years with the company. More proof loyalty matters as much as socks on a unicorn. This is the impetus I've been looking for to go completely online (and not to Best Buy) for my future electronics shopping.

really hearbreaking as i and many others in my team got this report we are ending our job. the push for more productivity on revenue was kind of a red flag. just a total heartbreak after working here for 4 years to get this and only 1 month to find another job. we were told job security is always safe for us I should of known better of-course and kept by eyes open for another job

It must be cheaper wages down there and since PR is an American territory, they can say they are not eliminating jobs. I feel for you guys.
