Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

What is wrong with the city of Sidney? This summed up a lot.

http://www.suntelegraph.com/story/2017/08/25/news/mill-levy-will-increase-for-one-year/11151.html . I would hope most other cities in America would follow a policy of cutting spending and services if they faced a situation for the future like Sidney is facing. Not in Sidney the current policy is spend spend spend and spend and acts like everything is normal . This is a sad day in the city of Sidney concerning the city government .

You mean everything and everyone on the internet isnt being truthful!? What a shocking revelation!

And if you are an adult and claim harassment on this sight, gimme a break. You know you have the choice of not coming here, right? These are trollers that know people at cabelas are naive and are trying to get a rise. Dont complain if you keep responding to them. Jeez, this is basic internet 101.

Room I stand my every post I have made on this site. . I do not try to run this site and tell the other posters what they can or can not post on this site. I find it funny the posters said certain posters Reliability is questionable and I am almost sure he is pretending to be at least two other posters who praised his comments on the forum concerning this present discussion. Can we worry about our own post instead of everyone else.

Many that check this site for updates do not live in Sidney NE. Please, whomever is in charge of this site, can we remind those writing in to keep discussions surrounding the current issues at Cabelas, not their city council. I'm sure there are other sites that address your concerns. Local sites might actually get you some answers, or the changes you would like to see occur in your hometown.

And please, check spelling and grammar before posting. Reliability is questionable at best when basic spelling and grammar are so poor the thread is difficult to follow.

I met to say a 25 increase in the mill levy. same thing basically. You can either cut your budget when you expenses are greater then revenues. OR IN SIDNEY CASE JUST PAST THE SHORTFALL IN REVENUE ON TO THE RESIDENCE OF SIDNEY IN HIGHER TAXES.

A question to the poster did the city council put a end to the TV coverage at council meetings and put a end to interaction between the council and the pubic to discuss city policy at council meetings . Did the city council approve probably close to a 25 increase in the budget for the coming year to cover the tremendous city budget. OR ARE YOU SAYING THE DIRECTORS AT CABELAS DID THIS?

The city has nothing to do with cabelas. They have no control over what happens on the hill. The city did not do this to Sidney, Cabela's and its leadership did. By the way as far as I know all the council are in the same boat as us. They own homes and pay taxes. If you want to complain about where our tax dollars go look at the schools. The large salaries don't go to the teachers in the classroom, who are in front of the kids, but to the leadership.

There is no one going to save the day so make a plan "B". Better yet help save Sidney and quit blaming.

I am not a conservative when it comes to a safety net for the needy or government spending which makes common sense. However every extreme conservative I know is for open council meetings with the general pubic and free press for having council meetings to be on TV. The true conservative I know are for the city to do as the residence of Sidney and that is to adjust their spending to fit the times.

Although there is blame, frustration, an a massive lack of leadership by the cabelas and city cowards...do not expect any help or bailouts. Take your own initiative and find a way to move on. Doesn't matter what the city does!

For people who don't like government interference, people sure want something from them now.

I really thought the council should have been heavily involved with the situation at Cabela's along with the governor and the Cheyenne county commissioners . However in all honesty you have directors at Cabela's making millions and millions and can we really expects a Safeway employee or a school teacher etc. to be able to stand up on a even playing field with these directors in Sidney Nebraska . Perhaps the city manager should have been involved in some matters with the Cabela's situation . However, I do expect the council men to be able to tell the city manger turn on the camera for the TV at the meetings so the pubic can view the council meetings . I expect the council men to be able to tell the city manager to do what ever community in the state of Nebraska does in have open discussion between the council and the pubic at council meetings. Yes I expect council men to tell the city manager we have citizens who have had their lives destroyed because of the reduction in property values. I expect them to say we understand the pain and we going to lead my example. No Mr. city manager the easy thing to do when we the city get into financial is just to raise mill levy to the good old taxpayers. However we are not going to take the easy route . . Mr. city manager You are instructed to reduce your budget to make up for the additional bond expenses needed.

I simply do not understand - why is the mayor not stepping up to the plate - I respect that his background and reason for being is due to Cabela's yet the position demands strong leadership - not pictures on Facebook.

Maybe they are saying that that mill levy increase has no place being discussed in this forum. I firmly believe that these discussions always turn to the city council because you have no other avenue to project your gripes. You are using the fact that many people in Sidney read this site to push your agenda.

Read the text at the top of this page. It says, "Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs", NOT," Thread regarding Sidney Nebraska City Council layoffs".

A very odd statement. Are you saying it is not relevant to discussion on Cabela's if a community where Cabela's corporate offices are located along with one of the stores and one of distribution center see perhaps a 25 percent increase in the mill levy in one year. Is this the city manager my any chance. you two seem to think a like in regard TO THE POSITION JUST PAST ANY ADDITIONAL EXPENSES ON TO THE TAXPAYER.

I think the government policy laid out my not only the city of Sidney but also Cheyenne county and the state of Nebraska has a huge effect on the future of Cabelas, Are you the moderator of this site who determines what can be discussed?

I knew the discussion would soon return to the Sidney city council. 90% of the cabela's employees do not live in Sidney. Find another forum for this discussion, please.

If this bs with spending does not stop at city hall . We need to fire the city manager and the bs with the chief financial officer and GET SOMEONE WHO WILL stop the practice of just let the taxpayer continue to pay for our outrageous spending. Maybe we could look for a replacement in Kimball Scottsbluff Gering or maybe every city in Nebraska. We could probably find someone IN ALMOST EVERY TOWN who HAS MORE FEELINGS FOR THE RESIDENTS OF THEIR TOWN then current city management in Sidney.

The city is spending money as if nothing is wrong and still drinking the Kool-Aid. The rate increases are crazy

the major and the city council need to tell those in charge go back to your budget and cut out the expenses for the bonds. WE ARE NOT INCREASING TAXES TO THE RESIDENTS IN SIDNEY . DO NOT ASK FOR MONEY. YOU DID TO FIND CUTS TO PAY FOR THESE ISSUES.
