Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

More layoffs planned by Boeing

This year seems to be really layoffs heavy for Boeing. 74 more people will be let go, in addition to at least another thousand nationwide since the start of the year (if my calculations are correct.) Hopefully, this trend will soon come to a full stop. I am not holding my breath, though.

Dear 35,000: That depends, based on a net profit of 3 million per plane
Spitballing here, Boeing will have to sell 2,000 planes for every 6 billion in losses.
12 billion in losses = 4,000 planes sold.
At 600 planes per year that’s 40 months to break even on 6 billion in losses
At that rate it’s 80 months to break even on 12 billion in losses
or 6 and a half years of work. Staggering; Axe the board ASAP

35,000 then chapter 11 filing and a cancellation of the collective-bargaining agreement with the union.

Only then can Boeing regroup and maybe even survive.

" This time, the company will eliminate 74 jobs permanently. " if i recall correctly those job codes are very old and outdated, meaning the people that work them have been at Boeing for decades and their job codes are now done by contractors and other cheaper labors. they're sort of grandfathered into them so to speak. anyone with more than a decade at the company has enough seniority to push someone out of almost any job that they want, union-wise that is.

to give a little hope to people coming here thinking they will get laid off. although WARN notices and layoffs tend to go hand-in-hand they are not the same thing. i have been given my warn notice twice now from boeing both times i have not been laid off, a warn is just a warning. when they hand out 200 warns in a round chances are less than 50 of those employees are laidoff.

if you believe this will stop any time soon, you are very naive.
