Fake awards. Pay to play.
Taking ideas from previous companies is the Staples way. There were a couple execs that came from Toys R Us in the early 2000s that were lauded for great new ideas, including MAP and some others.
This direct quote from the article slays me to no end. Specifically the use of word "innovative":
"Faisal Masud has helped facilitate Staples’ digital transformation with a number of high-profile projects that are solidifying the retailer as a technological pacesetter and earning Masud a reputation as one of the industry’s most innovative leaders."
in·no·va·tive (adjective)
1.) (of a product, idea, etc.) featuring new methods; advanced and original.
"innovative designs"
2.) (of a person) introducing new ideas; original and creative in thinking.
"an innovative thinker"
synonyms: original, new, novel, fresh, unusual, unprecedented, avant-garde, experimental, inventive, ingenious, creative;
According to the article, "Masud earned the CIO of the Year Award for implementing three cutting-edge technologies that are helping set the retailer apart: Staples Rush, Staples Exchange, and the Staples Easy System."
These "cutting-edge" technologies can best summed as Amazon, Amazon, and yes, Amazon.
“There is no other retailer that is doing this besides Amazon,” Masud says.
And there you have it: "Plagiarism" is the new "innovative".
pla·gia·rism (noun)
1.) the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own.
synonyms: copying, infringement of copyright, piracy, theft, stealing;
How low are we going to continue to sink in this country and particularly in business, that we continue to reward failures and cheaters?
RIS, you are a joke as is your award winner.
What a farce. Disgrace to humankind. Bad guy at work and home.
Weasil Masued.
This guy is the poster boy for self promotion. He is great. Just ask him. But don't ask what he delivered. That is a big fat zero.
This guy is the poster boy for everything wrong at Staples.
In the last company I worked for before Staples one of the EVPs used to pick someone for some "living by our values" award. For three years straight it was the regional sales manager. A woman with an office right next to the EVPs and who basically just sent emails all day about what high margin items to make associates push that day.
