Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

Managers thinking they are above

Why do the managers think it is ok to treat their employees like peasants? If it wasn't for their workers they would be closed. They yell and dictate everything treating them like little children. Then have enough trust to run around in company trucks doing personal business. It is getting hard to handle. Always saying they do everything around there. One day it might catch up with them.

Back in the days when men were men, drinking coffee, smoking and having a laugh used to be a right of passage for anyone who worked offshore. I believe nowadays smoking is frowned upon and everyone just plays on their phone and no-one talks to each other. Sad transformation but that's progress.

Want to give local management an enema, have some of the local unions do a membership drive. Make sure a director catches a wif. They will get rid of some of the management pretty quick.

It's a death blow for a plant manager to have his shop become unionized. The alternative, create a new email for yourself. Anonymously email a director that the plant is going to organize unless some management issues are resolved.

Better yet, lodge a complaint using the confidential phone number. Every complaint needs to be followed up by a director. Hopefully there's a bunch of stuff that can be investigated.

Want to just stir the pot. Organize disobience within the plant and make sure four or five complaints are lodged per week starting in September when things start getting busy for budgeting. Don't let up to December. That's four or five hours per week of investigating.

There is already a few underground people working at Houston manufacturing and Advantage that understands your position. It may take some time to seek them out for assistance but we are in the trenches here. Visit the local store for breaks we will be in contact.

You would be better organizing yourselves and taking your issues up with senior management. A Union in a right to work State let alone an industry that is unionized is not going to pull much weight beyond what the workers can do themselves. You will end up paying union dues and more than likely take issue with much of it as seniority plays a large part and it sounds as though much of the issue is with the old guard that are in those senior positions.

That said, WFT is very reactive to things and often will shoot itself in the foot with how they respond as many are inept - the threat of union or a group of workers actually standing up for themselves may solicit a strong reaction. Be warned however, they are also just short sighted enough to clean house at the lower levels and leave the poor management in place as the vast majority would never seek legal action against them nor stand up for themselves - you still have managers feeling "you" are lucky they allow you to work and they can back fill for you like that.

As stated in another post, you have to first start standing up for yourself and stop playing the part of the victim. Times are hard right now but what is your self respect worth to you and your family. Best time to find a new job is while you have a job, start looking!

You my friend, are a closet communist.

Stop with this 'we the poor worker' mantra. You are in the best country in the world!

Live the American dream and take charge, or not....

If you want it to change, stand up for yourself. There are a lot of ways to get word out to others about the sh-- some managers do. There is enough change going on that most managers are going to be in fear for their jobs as they know they've been doing a poor job.

Those are bad managers. WTF has a history of promoting those kinds of people. It's a poison culture there.
