Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

September layoffs at General Electric

Layoffs are coming not in December but more likely in September. They must get employees off the books by end of the year which usually can take 3 months or more. I do not know about hourly people but I know a pretty well positioned guy in management who told me planning is actively under way. New CEO wants to beat the 1B savings for this year so cuts will be deeper.

They are targeting the older higher paid workers so if you fit that description be prepared to get the infamous email from HR. If you survive this time don't be too complacent because they are targeting another 1B cost out next year and with protection given to the European ALSTOM employees they will come back and hit the US employees again. You can thank Immelt for your unemployment with his boneheaded decision to by ALSTOM a bankrupt company. Clearly the WORST CEO in GE's long history.

@OxCQJWS-bobo posted this in another thread, bumped up for info.

With Fieldcore GE will give the final push to get the customer relationship over the top and ruined total.

If you fire the expierenced personell with a profund professionel technical education dont wonder afterwards.

If you pay peanuts you get monkeys

Conclusion:

Right now is the moment to found or join third party companies for service products.

After layoffs, I plan to write a book. You cant make stuff up like this, forget the media, this is going to make a great story.

I am the spouse and we noticed the cracks in the foundation 10 years ago when he was hired.--- Hoping that we would make it to early retirement which is in two months. While I do not live above myself, medical cost could send us to retire in another country. I also do not care how much money our CEO makes or any of the share holders but if you take more than you need, nature always seeks a way to balance things out, and that is what bothers me the most. I know that I know that this mentality will ruin our nation and has become accepted way of life. While there are many complexities it is spiritually ignorant to ignore the laws of nature, and regardless of what you believe in. If you jump out of a 4 story window, you will not float. Not because I said so or anybody else said so. Its the law of gravity.

@OL17lzK-2kzl2kzl, I wonder if you and I know the same guy. I would imagine that they may have done this to more than one person at the same time, though.

GE Greenville were hiring during and after the previous layoff. Some of those impacted by the layoff were hired within 6 weeks of the layoff. In fact, one unfortunate guy had quit his job, moved to Greenville, bought a house, and was layed off by GE. You can't get much more unethical than that.

Yes, and it's time to act on Plan B. GE is in horrible shape.

Warren Buffett dumped 100% of his GE stock for a reason. There will be even more pressure to cut costs and do what it takes to get the stock price up. I'd wait for the severance package but be out looking for a new job now. Always have a Plan B.

Hourly people will be offered Temporary Layoff Packages initially. They will try to reduce the workforce as much as possible through attrition. They want you off the payroll as soon as they can. The longer GE waits to chop your head, the more money you cost GE. Don't let your head fall in the basket on GE terms. Find another job ASAP before you have job hunting competition from your coworkers.

We Alstom people aren't too thrilled either. GE screwed us up much worse than we were.

LOL @ Howard, who cannot even spell "Tiers" correctly. Look out; your job might be one of those on the chopping block you seem to enjoy so much.
