Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Incoming changes and layoffs at Shell Oil

What I know: Cuts at or about the VP level are deep (40+%?). The org charts look crazy. Most but not all jobs in P&T (U.S. and AMS) are changing so employees will have to post for them again. After we post, we get to know our status Christmas week and will leave end of Feb with the usual "special severance" if we lose. Posting to jobs will include allowing us to post for positions one grade level lower than our current grade which a new twist compared to the past. It's because many current jobs will be downgraded by one. What isn't clear is if that means my salary will fall or if I will just find myself at the top end of the lower grade, assuming I get the job, even though I'm doing my same job but "redefined". They're targeting grades 3 and 7, at least in some areas, to push to a lower grade. I can't remember much else. The changes make my head spin. I just want to do good work and support my family, dammit.

Shell pursued me for a year before I said yes. At the time I wasn't looking for a job. Several of my colleagues warned me against taking the job. They were right. I regret it every day
