Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

Soon all tenures will be gone

Wow their doing this again. First it was 70, now 65. Soon 60 and 55 until all tenures are gone. This way they can offer the jobs at a lower pay scale or outsource it completely. Their decision to offer this payout every two weeks instead of one lump sum doesn't impact the unemployment status. Technically you are still receiving a paycheck although your no longer employed, so that equals no unemployment benefits until your final payout.

This is not unique to Altice, pretty much everybody is doing this these days. It should not be legal, but it is, so there is nothing to do about it...

"Altice will not offer a package to Ats because you are all new hires."

Perhaps, but if they wish to avoid bad press and the politicians (durring a time which they hope to aquire Charter) its not a bad move. Reduce your operating costs (Yes ATS is a cost) Steer around the labor union difficulties and clear the bottom line for future loans/deal to aquire more companies.

Its win / win for both employees and Altice. BTW the "press" doesnt consider anyone in ATS as "New Hire" at least not as far as their breaking stories are concerned. This is exactly whay Altice needs to avoid. That is what will shut down any deals on the horizon

If you receive your first dismissal/severance

payment more than 30 days after the last

day you worked, you will be able to receive

Unemployment Insurance benefits if you

meet the other eligibility requirements.

If you are not sure whether or not you

will receive dismissal/severance pay, you

should file for benefits and let us determine

if you are eligible. However, you must

call the Telephone Claims Center right

away if you receive a dismissal/severance

payment within 30 days of your last day of

employment. If you don’t call right away, you

may receive an overpayment of benefits

which you will need to pay back. You also

may be subject to penalties.

That statement about unemployment is not correct in NY. You can collect your severance and unemployment as long as you do not collect your severance for 31 days following your filing for unemployment. File unemployment the first Monday after your last day then Wait 31 days to send back your severance and you can collect both, it's a loophole in the law.
