Thread regarding AFLAC layoffs

Aflac: no layoffs, hidden layoffs, or real layoffs?

I worked for the company from 2009 to 2015, it was a good gig and I went to work for a company that's not 100% commission pay. My wife is still with Aflac, she's in IT - they have been outsourcing, thence the job cuts. Aflac is proud to claim to never have had layoffs, but I've seen things happen that surely look like 'layoffs'.

For example, for lower paid jobs (lower skill jobs) they do drug screenings and this results in people losing jobs. Also, they will sometimes consolidate departments, that consolidation frequently leaves to position elimination, and some people lose jobs.

Overall, Aflac was a 3 on scale 1 to 5 for me - nothing to write home about but if someone tells you tha tthey do not have layoffs, read what I spelled out above and think about it.

@kgw you pretty much summarized my experience - this is 100% accurate...

Also, no layoffs in the real 'layoff' sense - but people are departing, so call it whatever you like.

Also, wife works in IT, they are offshoring things.

Back around 07 or 08, Aflac was aware of several Claims employees who were submitting their own fraudulent claims forms and receiving illegal funds. This is a fire-able offense obviously. Management in the Claims department said they could not afford to lose that large of a number of employees quickly so the investigation was swept under the rug. Then, around 2009/2010 or a little later--guess what? Claims needed to cut costs so only then did they re-open the investigation and fire those employees.

This also happens when higher skilled areas need to undergo cuts. Aflac will looks for ways to fire lower level employees with cause (such as the drug screenings)--then suddenly the laid off analysts from other departments have new job openings they can apply for.
