Thread regarding Allscripts Healthcare Solutions Inc. layoffs

As a McKesson EIS employee in McKesson's support organization.....

What can I expect when I become an Allscripts employee? Looking for any insights from my soon to be coworkers at Allscripts. Thank you! :)

They are laying off all scripts employees right now. A company that has grown by acquisitions and never grew up. They have people in executive management that have "payed their dues" rather than having an ounce of business acumen.

A company that simply refuses to acknowledge they have an antiquated, outclassed product offering and have developed the marketing strategy to their clients and potential clients of "we will do anything you want us to do as long as you sign"

This puts employees in a no win solution with insane hours and on call with no help in sight.

As far as being an Allscripts' employee. Better than what I had before. Really depends on the department and structure. There are still many silos given the size of Allscripts but some areas are better than others. Over the years I have seen a lot of opportunity for grown and movement. If you are a good resource then transfers are common. Lots of opportunity to move around. Moving "up" in a position might be a little harder at least in my area as people tend to stick around. Overall, good move for me.

Change is inevitable in IT. Long gone are the days of any kind of constant. Few options, stick with it and hope you are good enough to stay and grow, or get your resume ready. *Always have your resume ready. I have been through a few and sometimes it goes the way you think and other times you are just one of the masses. Can't sit around worrying about it because no matter what you are told it can/will change the next day. Top or bottom of the food chain, it can hit anyone at any time.

embrace the change? must be a director, manager, or VP

I had that told to me as people were canned left and right. Nothing to do with being a good employee vs. bad employee. Has to do with wealth at the top.

So for a more balanced view (seems a lot of negative folks come here) -- yes, there may be some outsourcing and "synergies" which is code for finding duplicative roles and keeping the better employee. I've been on both sides of acquisitions over the years.

Change is opportunity. Are you a shining star or a lump on the ground? Will you huddle under your desk or will you step forward to embrace the change?

As for Allscripts - There's plenty of development and support in India and elsewhere in the world. There's also plenty in the US as well.

Here is a quote from an analyst:

Ben Rooks, founder of strategic and financial advisory firm ST Advisors, says that this latest deal was a “finishing off of the Change Healthcare transaction.” He notes that it was well-known that McKesson had been looking for a home for these assets for the past few years, and that it was not a matter of if, but when they would close a deal. “The price [of the deal] was a low one; it’s a fixer-upper in a bad neighborhood. McKesson wanted to get rid of it. I think it’s safe to say that it was broadly shopped and that this was the best they could do,”

What does this tell you? Look for a job, don't wait.

Seems to be the norm now. Not just in Healthcare but, IT/Technology in general. What do you believe the odds are that there will be layoffs before the Holiday's?

Prepare your resume.

Why do you think Allscripts will absorb McKesson employees who are being replaced by offshore Indians?

your job will most likely be outsourced.
