Caterpillar is restructuring various divisions right now which means folks are at best ending up with a different job; next best is lose up to two salary grades but keep a job; or ... bye bye. At the same time we are sending more work to India @ 1/5 the cost. This is not the company I hired into. I've seen many friends lose jobs months away from retirement eligibility. This is not right. Caterpillar is not a career company any more. If you need a job go for it but don't expect any loyalty from the company. You are a number, you don't matter, and can be let go at the whim of upper management. NOTE: in the 80's Caterpillar was losing $1 million per day. NO management layoffs. Through the last 20 years Cat has experienced massive profits and recently still making decent profits and could be more except for "restructuring costs" meaning the cost to pay severance packages.

The one area Cat really excels? Reorganizing, restructuring, and implementing "a new strategy."
Cat makes a profit in spite of themselves. They love to restructure, or as I call it, Moving the deck chairs around on the titanic.
I used to work in research before CAT completely destroyed research. I'm much happier out of Illinois doing something else, getting paid around 20% more. Get out of CAT!
Cat has sh-- on their hourly employees for years is very true. They just started sh--ting on all their own, including managers over the last 6 years or so. One thing that has changed is social media. That has let everyone see the toll of what Cat's decisions take on their employees and THAT they can't control
Where have you been. The Cat has taken a big dump on their hourly employees since the late 70's...
