For all the issues and the new approval tool, i still cannot get over how stingy the travel policy is. I have two trips to Asia coming up, both of a week long, both worth millions of dollars to the org, yet I am expected to perform at my best after 17 hours in coach ? I agree there has been a lot of internal meeting travel that was potentially needless, but this policy of only SVP sits up front is wrongheaded. The title is less important than the delivery agent. This is not a joyride, this is serious time away from family, the reason we work in the first place

To all you jokers who is ridiculing the OP, you all are the darn slaves who has drank gallons of coolaid served up by the management. This company makes employees travel by cattle class with cramped seating regardless of the distance involved in the travel. I can understand if it is 3 or 4 hours of domestic travel, but what about the long 17 hour flights to far east sitting crouched in cramped seats. Gimme a break..... They are saving money on the backs of employees and doling it it to the shareholders and upper management.
You can always stay home and let someone else do the trip.
Get real dude, even seasoned high q techies that are bringing in deals worth 10's of M per month are flying coach, thats been going on for the last 10-15 years, the hey days of bussiness and first for long hauls is long time passed. I have spent the last months racking up more than 50k miles... all in coach...dont fret, you still get around, the hotel policy aint that bad, meals and drinks are included, and dont tell me you got to eat maccy D every night and not allowed to have breakfast...
Hahaha! They are not hurting for cash. Granted we all in sales hate the mothership-not looking better at the spinoff locale either since it's where software goes to die. Couldn't have made a [worse] choice for future leadership of that SW organization either. People being elevated way past their abilities due to loyalty. They travel just fine-first class, business class whatever. As long as your manager likes you, or you are a manager you do what you want. I've worked for VPs that fly places for dinner. Not to close a deal, just to be seen. It's not about money-they've bent over the sales org and wonder why people aren't meeting their numbers. We all want out-I'm giving it 90 days past day one and then bye! If this continues. This used to be a good company-wth happened?
Hee hee hee... I found out HP doesn't even send it's BEST employees / trainers to India in business class! It was "wonderful" (?...) traveling in cattle-class for 26 hours to india with sniffling crying babies and people knees on top of me all the way. The manager followed me over a week later.... in 1ST class.
right.....
Hey, as panzerjager pointed out; you STILL HAVE A JOB. S--- it up, buttercup. I gots no sympathy for you.
The travel policy is there to prevent abuse. If you are in delivery, then there is usually a way to have this billed to the project or to have the customer pay somewhere (against hours or travel expenses). If its a sales pursuit, then discuss with your manager - there are always ways around this and things you can do. Traveling on different days can make a massive difference to the costs and allow flexibility - in some cases you can fly a day before in a higher class for less, just need the approval! And while it doesnt go down well with some, many airlines allow you to top-up and pay for reserved seats. I look at it this way - if I am stuck on a plane for 10 hours or more, paying up to $100 for a more comfortable seat is worth it - thats $10 or less per hour for a nice seat? People pay more than that for less.
Welcome to the modern world. Travel by first class (or even business) is reserved for those who travel constantly and who need it. But for all of the worker bees out there, cattle class it is.
Yeah man, I had to cut back from 5 gallons of the finest caviar per day, to a mere 3... I really could use those extra 2 gallons/day to deal with all the stress caused by Me having to pick out 30 televisions for 30 of the rooms in my new mansion...
First class to Asia? Come on man. We are ALL having to cut back.
Be thankful you at least have a job with so many thousands out of work!
utterly lame travel policy. They are hurting for cash and they want to show wallstreet by hook or crook that there is profit growth. Pretty soon they might create a bring your own toilet paper to work policy.
You mean, you get to ride first class, or not...
Depending on your RANK? Whether you are a joy-riding, schmoozing SVP or higher? ...
And NOT depending on how critical your top performance will be, in making millions of dollars for HPE?!?!
Color me SHOCKED, utterly SHOCKED!!!
