So, according to WSJ, Staples will be divided into three separately financed entities to create the leverage for its buyout. We'll be split into US retail, Canadian retail, and corporate-supply unit.
This is pretty much what Sycamore did with Jones Group several years ago, and if I remember correctly, some major layoffs followed.

Folks. In case you are just waking up from your rip van winkle nap, retail is dying. Please.....please come to that realization. Staples will need less than 400 stores in the future and any meaningful change or growth will come from the ecommerce side. Just take a look at the world today...

Obvioulsy closing stores will lead to many layoffs. What Sycamore NEEDS to do is clear out US retail middle management.
Combine districts and get rid of 1/4-1/3 of DMs .
Combine Regions and get rid of at least 2 RVP positions (the current reg 1 rvp needs to go!!!!!).
Get rid of MD or OP or both.
Move Steve back to Canada land appoint a new US retail Pres (not MD or OP)
