Thread regarding State Street Corp. layoffs

Lay offs permeate in all corporate arenas

Look around everyone you look on this thread at other companies

Few are left unscathed

Go on company review sites change the company names its practically interchangeable

I have made a concerted effort to find a job outside and I can happily say I have had offers where the money is definitely better than STT

And after doing homework on the companies I felt like sure I'd be making more money but there is no guarantee of not getting laid off at the new place maybe even last one in first one out?

It seems "restructuring" is rampant everywhere

So I've come to the conclusion

1 STT on my resume isn't a buzz kill for getting a job elsewhere

  1. Seniority may or may not protect me but it's better than being the newbie

3 money increase is nice but at what price no guarantee of job security lose the vesting in my 401k initially too which is comparable to the pay increase offered

4 maybe the grass isn't greener elsewhere

5 ceo's come and go

6 there is hope if you persevere keep your resume sharp by keeping your skills sharp

7 the ppl I do work with are good people

Happy Independence Day

I want to contribute to some change but dont know how - I am fairly powerless.

It's depressing.

Sometimes I wish I can open a coffee shop and just work there on my own.

I feel I'd be able to control things if I had something small and simple.

I respect your pov.

I expect no change from any company or Congress or anything.

I went with the path of least resistance.

I couldn't be bothered trying to prove myself after all these years.

Color me apathetic

You've justified why you don't want to make a change. Which is fine and entirely up to you. But just be honest with yourself. Do you think something will change at State Street that will make you happier? If you do, then stop it. Companies do not change. You have to make the change. It took me a while to figure that truth out. If you are unhappy, you have to be the one to make changes.

It's been progressively becoming worse since the early 1980's recession and not letting up.

We really are st the mercy of the ceos and globalization.

We're just trying to hold off the tidal wave for as long as possible.

I know it's coming it's not IF but WHEN.

@Layoffs, You are right their is no guarantee you will not get laid off at the new company

I remember when I was finally laid off in 2011 and actually feeling some relief.

I was going through the will I or will I not be laid off stress since 2000

And during that time I remember my section going 3 years without raises or bonuses

Seeing our workload doubled and the stress tripled .
