H1B's were supposed to be given out for highly qualified candidates. Not the ordinary $50k salaried one. Maybe they should require a PhD degree as a minimum qualification. This is how it was in the 80's. Trump is right here.

So what's the point of having 200k open jobs if no matching Americans apply to them? Hey, I would strongly prefer to hire local Americans rather than foreigners whose first question is "How good is the relocation package?" But if none apply, then I am left little choice. Sure, there is the fairy tale of cheap foreign labor, but as far as I can tell, that doesn't exist at Intel. You think all those Indians are buying their big houses and expensive cars by selling their garish gold jewellery? If I offer a job as grade 7, then it is not downgraded to lower the salary, just because I end up hiring an H1B. So the fact is that after relocation and visa expenses, H1Bs are more expensive than Americans. There simply are no unemployed American engineers who match my open positions. An affirmative action program for white Americans is not going to change that.
And even if the foreign laborers were taking jobs that Americans engineers could fill, how does that even work? Do those American engineers then prefer being unemployed over undercutting the foreigners' salary expectations? Really? Sorry, that bullsh!t fairy tale just doesn't add up.
All an H1B ban will do is to drive American companies to open more sites overseas, so more tax income will be missing in the US. Great plan.
If you think so, you have never been a hiring manager. Hard to find candidates with the right skills in general, let alone only citizens/green cards.
You know ... as someone who has does recruiting ... I can see the reason we need H1B. Yes, USA has a large pool of available engineers in many fields but the analogy is like trying to find a date on OkCupid or eHarmony. There are a lot of candidates but the quality of many are exceedingly suspect. My "hit" rate is 1 offer for every 15 phone interviews. This is why I hate getting resumes from "the wild" and strongly prefer referrals.
LOL I the in an excellent idea as you need little more than a high school diploma to read a PCS chat and Intel hires some poor a$$ Phd to do it.
Saved the poor a$$ PhD from mindless work and gives it to a USA born, brilliance win-win. The foreign PHD doesn't realize how lucky they we're not to get that sad Intel job
