Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

401k cash out

Anyone know when you transfer to ats from alticeusa if you could cash out your 401k. Since it's considered a new company on paper and they have me a "start date" I would think it should be able to cash out. I'm want to leave soon and this extra cash now would be helpful. Fidelity said I can't cash out till I leave. Anyone try this?

You can not cash out your 401k. this question is often brought up when companies do this. when cablevision bought the company I worked for we all signed termination papers then rehire papers for cablevision and we were unable to cash out or even move our 401k.

Look up "same desk rule". maybe you can find some wording in there that let's you cash it out.

if you have a Pension I know you can roll that into the 401k, but only if you leave the company or move to ATS

If you outstanding loans they have to be paid first before you do anything . if the loan is a lot your better off closing it out and transferring to a IRA. You'll get rid of the amount owed and be able to move the rest.

Wrong it's 30 percent . 20 to the federal 10 percent penalty and don't forget to pay the state too.. Think about it before you want to give almost half away .

Why cash it out, you don't have to do anything leave it there for now till you find a new job and then transfer it to your new job if they offer a 401K. And if you are younger than 59 1/2 then another reason to leave it alone.

Yes I left the Company this year and rolled it into an IRA. Fidelity can do thus for you or you can look for one on your own. Good luck with your future endeavors.

Thanks. I am in the process of getting a new job and won't be vested. So I only have like 6k of my own. Really not worth it to keep in there. I'd rather take the hit cause my new job benefits are gonna be way better

you take a 20% tax hit if you withdraw money from retirement accounts before age. 10% income tax and 10% penalty.

I did it to my cash balance but I've been vested for over 20 years. Technically if you transferred over to ATS your in a different company. So all you have to do is contact fidelity and tell them when you separated from Altice USA/Cablevision. Then the ball starts rolling . It can take up to 45 days to receive anything so be patient.
