Thread regarding ADP layoffs

July 1 2017 Layoffs for Tech Support

After 27 very successful years at ADP, I am walking before my layoff.

The culture has changed dramatically with our latest CEO.

Home-shored employees are asked to move to a state with one of the new southern mega centers, else be laid off.

The focus of the layoffs are older employees and long term employees.

Tech support specialist are travelling to train new tech support staff, and have been told come July 1 2017, they will know whether they still have a job or not.

I was a 20 year employee and was let go June 2012. The new culture is to fire older loyal workers and hire workers in India. Severance is offered just because they do not want to be sued. I had to sign an agreement before I got it. Just heard yesterday 11/8/17 there started another round of layoffs. ADP is now a disgrace....

If you get laid off at ADP you may get a severance package. I did when I got laid off more than a year ago, but I noticed that many associates that are being laid off nowadays are being fired for "not being productive enough". It seems that the company wants to save some more money on top of replacing their workers with cheaper ones. So if you are still at ADP, you are playing Russian Roulette with your career. You may get your severance (your salary continued for a number of weeks, but no benefits) when you get laid off, or you may get fired (NOT laid off, no severance) and have to explain the firing to potential employers.

It's better to leave on your own terms rather than wait to be laid off or fired. It's less pressure to look for a job while you still have a job, rather than being laid off or fired and watching the clock tick.

If they lay you off, you'll get a severance package and it's a pretty good one. I was laid off and got 20 weeks severance after 8 years. Another teammate was laid off, after 28 years at ADP, and got 26 weeks. Hang around for the severance and then get another job so you can have double income for about 3-6 months (depending on your severance package). There is life outside of ADP, AND IT'S A GOOD ONE!!

I have been with ADP for 17 years and have been homeshored since 2010, and not by choice. I know my days are numbered here; I just hope they offer a severence package. I have been a loyal employee, never had a write up of any kind and always a top performer. We will see what happens. I am just so tired of the stress of thinking every day may be my last.

Gladtonegone,

Regrettably, Carlos Rodriguez's vision does not include experienced and veteran associates because "they earn too much money". Cheap and inexperienced associates is the way to go now. I wonder how Carlos explained this new vision in a politically correct manner? In any normal company, experience and competence among the workforce counts, so that clients can be serviced in the best manner possible. I guess that saving some money rather than providing quality customer service is the best choice that Carlos can make.

I worked for ADP for 17 years in Implementation. Our office was told last summer that Carlos's "vision" did not include senior or tenured associates. The conversation with a senior manager at our location offered no hope for any ongoing future with ADP (no transfers, no homeshored, game over). I decided to move on. It's been a bitter experience to say the least. I actually had to unfollow the "survivors" on social media because it's a bitter pill to swallow, being told you're on the chopping block for "performance" just weeks after getting an award as a top performer for multi mod for fiscal. What?? Huh?? Good luck with that....

To me, it appears that ADP is becoming an Indian owned and operated business with offices in the U.S.. I've seen many 20+ year employees of different races sacked then replaced with young newly arrived Indian workers. Looks like they are giving the American works the finger.

That's right, the CEO does not care about the little people in his organization, supposedly under his care. He has got his money so why should he worry about others.

Congratulations on a job "well done", Mr. Rodriguez! So glad to know that you will do well wherever you go next.

Everyone who is losing their job can blame it on the lousy CEO. After all those jobs are cut and all the damage is done he will ride off into the sunset with his big pay day and move onto to another company like most CEOs do.

I have heard similiar...homeshored jobs at this time are a short term solution, not permanent. If you cannot get yourself to go into a nearby ADP office, you will not be homeshored forever but on the chopping block.

I think if the company is closing your office that offer of working from home will be a short term deal. After everyone is trained and ready those home shored jobs will be gone.

I hear some TS reps who office closed were able to homeshore "temporary" until April 18' so that must be when all homeshore is done for?

Anyone else hear about this?

An outstanding and detailed discourse on age discrimination by the last reply poster. Unfortunately, ADP is very tricky and can easily get around age discrimination by always making it about job performance not age. Last time I checked, there are no protections for poor and lazy workers who cannot perform properly at their job. Besides, ADP has an "at will" employment policy where it can fire anyone it wants for no reason, including top performers if they wish. No fuss, no muss, no explanations needed.

if you feel that ADP has discriminated against you based upon being an older (over the age of 40) worker then you can file a claim with the EEOC

https://www.eeoc.gov/laws/types/age.cfm

Age Discrimination

Age discrimination involves treating an applicant or employee less favorably because of his or her age.

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) forbids age discrimination against people who are age 40 or older. It does not protect workers under the age of 40, although some states have laws that protect younger workers from age discrimination. It is not illegal for an employer or other covered entity to favor an older worker over a younger one, even if both workers are age 40 or older.

Discrimination can occur when the victim and the person who inflicted the discrimination are both over 40.

Age Discrimination & Work Situations

The law prohibits discrimination in any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, layoff, training, benefits, and any other term or condition of employment.

Age Discrimination & Harassment

It is unlawful to harass a person because of his or her age.

Harassment can include, for example, offensive or derogatory remarks about a person's age. Although the law doesn't prohibit simple teasing, offhand comments, or isolated incidents that aren't very serious, harassment is illegal when it is so frequent or severe that it creates a hostile or offensive work environment or when it results in an adverse employment decision (such as the victim being fired or demoted).

The harasser can be the victim's supervisor, a supervisor in another area, a co-worker, or someone who is not an employee of the employer, such as a client or customer.

Age Discrimination & Employment Policies/Practices

An employment policy or practice that applies to everyone, regardless of age, can be illegal if it has a negative impact on applicants or employees age 40 or older and is not based on a reasonable factor other than age (RFOA).

You can either work with an attorney or contact the EEOC directly

Anyword on Illinois offices? Very difficult to do business in Illinois because of business taxes....seems many new people in the office...meetings are are trying to address 'rumors' of layoffs.

@Former Employee: that does not surprise me on what is occuring with your experience calling Client Services. I think this will set many clients over the edge and just imagine when clients call during year end...hold times during year end are high as it is. Add to that someone answering the call with no clue what to do!

I did the same thing. I worked in Implementation and I left on a Friday and the following Tuesday they came in to say they were closing our office. We were told numerous times that our office would not be closing by managers and VP's. Liar Liar Pants on Fire to them! We all saw the writing on the wall and I got out while the getting was good. It was a great company when I started but you are correct, this CEO is sending that company into a hole. In my current job I have to call Client Services and it is a joke. I usually end up telling them what to do to fix something I need corrected, then they put me on hold for 15 mins while they go find someone to ask if that is what to do. This is after at least a 15-30 minute hold to get a body to speak to. Then you have to hope that you can understand them.

Agreed. Adp does not want to pay high salaries when they can find replacements at a much much lower rate at one if the hub locations...I heard this restructure will be complete by mid 2018. They are cleaning house and doing layoffs in small batches so its not so obvious...

I agree with your decision. Associates can relocate to one of the hubs if management asks them to, but it is very likely that they will be laid off later anyway. The problem is that ADP is also doing away with employees who "earn too much money". This would include experienced associates with several years of working at ADP. So it is best to leave on your own terms rather than wait for ADP to throw you out.

Not many people can say they worked with a company for 27 years. God bless you and best wishes to you on your next journey.

You are doing the right thing because it would be to much of a risk moving out of state to work for a company that has constant layoffs and no loyalty to anyone.

I doubt the techs will have a job if they're training their replacements. Unless they move.
