@NOFdUi0-arvd If you are paid severance in NYS you are eligible for unemployment. First you apply for unemployment on your 1st day out of work, then You wait 30 days to submit your signed contract. Since you did not receive any severance payments within 30 days of separation you are now eligible.

I also speak from experience.

Just so you know, you can not collect unemployment in New York till your severance runs whether you got a lump sum or bi-weekly. Good luck out there.

To the idiot who thinks every one at ats only has the two choices to either leave or be fired... there is a third. Come in, do 8 hours, go home. Collect a check, and enjoy the 16 hours a day your not at work. We still get paid more, and even with the cut on out vacation/sick time get more than most. Last I checked there's no cable company that can do tc without techs... maybe the good ones are all we need. And the crying union rats should find another ship.

"lump sum pay of 10K" ??

That sounds like complete BS. Policy is 2 weeks for every year of service. period.

It must be noted however, Altice reserves the right to bend or break any of their policies as they see fit. Quite possible that they may have secretly done this before and have the exiting employee sign a non-disclosure agreement.

I know for a fact that in the past, pro-company technicians have been bribed off by management.

So if you worked 5 years, you only get 10 weeks severance pay? I heard there was also a lump sum of $10K on top of that to people who are being laid off.

So it's 2 weeks for every year of service and that's it?

I am one of workers who took severance in December of 2016. They took out the 47 percent taxes, my financial/ tax accountant said not to worry, I will get back the over payment come 2018 when he figures out 2017 taxes. Also word to wise take your money out from 401k and cash balance plan. Roll it over you can get a better deal some where else.

The lump sum is taxed at 47 percent not bi weekly

Lump sum payout is not a option, I wish it was. Then I would be eligible for unemployment. This is just another way this Company are screwing us.

47 percent what a rip off . That's a slap in the face all because you are no longer employed. Can you take the lump sum and run ? At least you will get taxed once not every pay day 47 percent .

To the person who asked what is the SERVANCE PACKAGE. The Company will pay you 2 weeks pay for every year of service. For example if you completed 10 years of service, the company will pay you 20 weeks pay. That's equivalent to 5 months pay. However keep in mind you will be taxed at a rate of 47% leaving you with just a little over half your salary.
