I have been with Devon a long time, and I am getting too old to stress about start g my career over again. Does anyone think that we will make it through without layoffs? What are all of the Accountants who account for the Barnett going to Do? Can they shift around that many people, or are layoffs inevitable? Has anyone heard anything, I just keep my head down and work hard, I try not to ask any questions, but maybe I can get some honest feedback from you guys. I know I can't be the only one who is tired of guessing what this company is doing

Devon is at it again!
I agree with Post ID: @NO5XKaM-bjda (below) - millennials constantly pumped full of lies, which further over inflate their egos. The only smart move is to exit the oil business, or settle for bouncing around from company to company, state to state, country to country - enjoy your divorces and child support kids! No thanks - DVN is dying .
Will be amusing to watch the smug faces when they find out every asset is under performing and marginal at even modest prices. They can't help it as they've been told how smart they are since their internship. Welcome to the real world kids, may need to unload that new motorcycle or refinance the casa during this moment of clarity. Good luck out there.
Safe place, weak, and crying? Son your perceived strength and wild cat mentality mean nothing at or below cash flow neutral. Stay in your cowboyistan daydream, your stuck in a victim of its own success industry.
Keep dreaming and gulp that koolaid of $70 bbls by 1Q18.
I guess it is easy to be strong when your in denial of the current state of affairs, along with the futures. It was good while it lasted, now it is time to wake up.
Trust me the grass is much greener on the other side of Devon. S---s to be the ones still stranded in Hell. Y'all only thought y'all were safe after the first go round.
Yes, no room for the weak, my a--. If you arent one of the good old boys you are toast.
Yes. I feel the same way. Just got to keep on going, though! :)
Stay out of oil and gas then. There is no room for the weak like you. Go find your safe place and try not to cry too much.
Yep.. my decision is not from this site alone but with all other things considered, I have to look at the future. Seems a lot of O&G employees are jumping ship to more stable career fields. Civil engineering for governmental infrastructure seems a little more secure than fracking in a patch. I am a little behind the times but I thought Devon was THE place to work, guess all good things come to an end.
All you people with time invested and still there, I wish you all the best and hopefully things turn for the better. Good luck!
No, no, no, a job at Devon is not secure. Have you been watching Devon stock for the last 6 moths? Do you know Devon is inexorably connected to whims of the wti oil price chart? The only secure jobs are the execs and VPs. I saw them let go young engineers, military vets, the future of the company. They will do anything to keep the company afloat in down times. You are just an asset like a pumpjack. When they find a better pumpjack for a lower price, you are gone.
Devon will fill your wallet. It will also eat your soul. Miserable place.
Devon paid great money and benefits are hard to beat but O&G is just too unpredictable. If you were single and lived in the area I would say go for it and bank some money, not sure I would move my family.
Troll, if you want to get into O&G, you need to realize that it is a roller coaster. When it's good, you're rolling in dough because prices and profits are high, but when it's bad, you're wishing you had managed your money better and weren't so heavily leveraged.
No I am not hinging my decision off this site. I have wanted to work for Devon for a long time. The recent state the O&G industry is what has made me apprehensive, now that I have a shot.
But thank you for your useless feedback...

If you are hinging your decision to take a job at Devon off this forum, you are not the brightest crayon in the box....
Well I don't work for Devon but I have recently interviewed for a position in the OKC office. If I accept their offer, I will have to relocate my family. Everyone I interviewed with painted a secure position with extreme growth opportunity. Salary is much higher than what I am currently making in civil development and engineering services.
The more I research, the more red flags pop up. I'm just not sure if I am just being paranoid reading stuff off this site, as well as analyzing current oil prices. Are these negative feelings company wide? Before I took my current job in 2012 I interviewed with Devon, at that time I read Devon was one of the best companies to work for, especially how they treat their employees.
I've wanted to work for Devon for quite some time and now that I get a chance I am feeling hesitant.
No one gives a crap about the drilling consultants in Texas... this like the 5th thread you have commented that.
They are currently bringing on new drilling consultants in Texas
Communication at Devon has always been on a need-to-know basis, so turn up the volume on those ear buds and plug into "don't worry, be happy". You say you've been there a long time. Define long. Not 20 years. Most of them are already gone. Retired on their own or were told they could retire a year ago February. There's life after And beyond Devon.
Let me give a wild guess:
The okc accountants gone.
The okc land people for barnett, gone.
High profile ops guys with sugar daddy, might transfer.
Drilling consultants, gone.
Water management, gone.
EHS folks, stay with new owner.
Guys that keep wells operating, stay with new owner.
Supt and foremen...mostly will land somewhere in devon.
The smart talent with marketable skills are shopping around their resumes.
Dude, you have a job. S--- it up and quit your whining. You are working for Devon? I doubt it. Else u would be telling us not asking us.
