You are correct!!!! "networking" or "A** Kissing" or "money/presents/lunches/etc...giving" is what is happening now in the Calgary office. Quality Assurance guy rehired ...are you kidding me...?! he cannot properly speak english!!!! OMG!! what's left of quality?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!! the question is "who" and "why" was he rehired!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or simply, being non-white? Which is very evident these days.
It is common in Calgary for almost every company now. "Networking" skills prevail above any skills one may have.
