Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

Layoff model?

My impression is that the BU needs to layoff employees if it can not achieve the target goal quarter by quarter.

Is it true?

In India two small teams were closed. 14+ people got impacted. It is insignificant....Still hiring is on.

It is simple, prove your worthiness and enjoy the package. More people are fired from India

"Broadcom is a growing and hence becoming more stable organization"??!!!

Either you are totally checked out/ignorant, one of Hock's shills or not an actual Broadcom employee, as that statement is PATENTLY FALSE.

Broadcom is growing on paper, at the expense of any of the front line employees.

In order for Hock to stuff his pockets with 25 million (and the rest of the promised few above the official "cut line", A LOT OF regular folks have to lose their jobs.

I. E. "relax and retire" for the top 5-10%.

As said on the comment below "brutal and ruthless" for the majority.

This company values/mission statement is unfettered greed and dishonest behavior.

Things get worse and worse EVERY DAY.

Broadcom is a growing and hence becoming more stable organization. All the BUs are stable & healthy. Only bottom 2-5% people get impacted for a different reason. Relax & Retire.

Layoffs will happen in next quarter (last quarter) when ratings will be decided, rating 3 people will be asked to go and impact will be major in the BUs which are not meeting revenue targets.

It is a compound interest,

$(1+r)(1+r).....

There will be an end, no market can increase with this rate forever.

The rule is simple, the man to decide this rule is brutal and ruthless.

easy. Hock sets a contribution margin targets for each BU, where the GM's bonus is tied to those targets. To up the contribution margin, you either go to the customer and raise the price to improve your gross margin, and when that is not enough, you cut back on R&D or SG&A.

Once the BU meets the target this year, the bar is raised next year. There is so much you can raise the price without it being backfired hence the pressure to cut back on R&D is relentless.

14 or more people are laid off in Bangalore. Two teams closed down. May be more in the offing .... as customer projects wind up, teams could wind up as well.

Why does this matter? This generic assumption should be true at any business. Didn't achieve the target goal? Fired!
