The city council in Sidney nebraska should addresss the situation with cabelas

I have watched most of the council meetings for the last 18 months. However how many times do you think the city manager and council has discussed the situation at Cabela's at a council meeting. If you stated never you were right. My point is even if the council can't change policy at Cabela's (they could offer an input if they want on the city position). They still need to use the factor at Cabela's in forming policy. For the last 15 years when things were going good at Cabela's almost every meeting you would hear the tremendous growth at Cabela's from the council and THE NEED TO SPEND MONEY ON PROJECTS. However today you will not hear a word about Cabela's and not a word on cutting spending. I think it was back in the spring of 2015 the city of Sidney was seeing new homes being built , a new hospital , road projects, Cabela's corporate building the council was discussing spending on new projects. The city manager stated the city need to wait to see how the revenue from the summer comes in before approving new projects. A council men stated we can wait to approve the new projects . However I think we need to start the planning now so when revenue comes in from the summer We can just go go on these new projects and will not have to wait on planning. Now it is time to live like the residents and BEGIN TO CUT SPENDING BIG TIME CITY COUNCIL

I do not know what will happen in the future. I am pretty sure the city council will not cut back on any of their spending. There is a chance the property at cabelas could be taxed less so maybe you will be able to contribute even more in the tax department of the local government. lol

I moved here from another state and almost crapped myself when I found out what the taxes are in this town. I continue to feel that pain every time I bounce through a pothole in the road.

Seriously people, if you want to do anything, you have to circulate a legitimate petition around the city calling for the removal of the council members. It's called a recall election and it can happen. Right now from what I've read, the only council member that has the fortitude to say no is the appointed member from the hospital. I think she's the CFO there. At any rate, the city attorney and the city manager have gotten together to squelch public input. The city manager has stated when he first started that this was just a temporary job for him. How temporary do you want to make it for him?

Is anyone else getting discouraged. I have over the last few months read in the Omaha world herald the Scottsbluff star herald the Sidney telegraph the Lincoln journal and I would say every newspaper in the state of Nebraska has had a story on the potential problems in Sidney Nebraska with the Cabela's situation. A neighbor has their house listed for 183 thousand they purchased it for 275 thousand in 2014 , another home owner purchased a home for 525 thousand a few years ago and they have it listed for 349 thousand there are many more examples. Then I pick up the newspaper and look at this website and I read how the city manager has passed a law so the pubic can not address the city council at the meeting without first getting on the agenda first, I read about how the city has purchased new trucks, I read how city employees are driving around town to look at property they think are messy and report back to the ordinance person to get her on them. I will say at least a member of the city has addressed the Cabela's problem. The new economic developer for Sidney did state the city of Sidney is on the right side of the Cabela's issue and she said there would be life after Cabela's. Who known's strange things happen and maybe she is like Dorothy in the wizard of oz maybe all she has to do is tap her heels together and just repeat there is no place like Sidney there is no place like Sidney

They have no concept of budgeting or grasp on the reality of the true situation and it has been that way for years and years. The tax rate has always been crazy and what do we actually get for it - new trucks. This is crazy.

There is one comparable - the buyout of Gander that was just approved. They are keeping a handful of stores, the brand and selling the rest of the leases. Done and gone. This is what is going to happen townspeople. Time to revolt

The recourse the taxpayers and the residents have is to vote! The second most valuable right we have is to voice our opinion. Not just here, but publicly. Call for their resignations.

I will give one example a man who worked on planning projects with the city of Sidney. This man purchase a piece of property from the city of Sidney to build several propose businesses on the site. (the council probably gave him a good deal to help with economic development in Sidney}. His purpose business fell thru so then I think around a year latter the city of Sidney brought back the property from this man for twice what he gave the city of Sidney for the property. I am curious if we as taxpayers have any recourse against those who planned all these spending projects if it could be proved those party acted with negligence in approving them.

Most projects by the city was never approved by the voters. I am curious as a taxpayer I wonder if we as citizens of Sidney could file a claims against those who approved the project if it could be proved the body approving the project acted with negligence and the project should never had been approved . I wonder if the citizen of Sidney has any recourse for damages.
