Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

Advice on joining Charter or Altice as a NEW Tech? Which one?

Hi all! Found this place recently. Im reading a lot of interesting things on Altice. Well, Im new to this field and I may have the opportunity to join Charter or Altice(Brooklyn) in the NY Area.

It seems to me that Charter is unionized by local 3? & I've read on here Altice is unionized but Im unsure of what union?

Which company would you advise someone who will be a new tech to join? THANKS!

They are hiring new field techs? Last I saw they've been busy trying to get rid of all the ones they have!

Thanks for replying. Well, I have one "offer" that included a salary for the company starting off as a new tech. I will receiving training as well.

I'm still confused on how the pay works. A cable tech for these cable companies get paid an hourly wage, but I've heard that they also get paid piece work on top of the hourly wage? Is this true and how does that work?

I'm really brand new to this industry but I do have experience with making connectors in the construction field.

My Friend.... I would compare between BOTH contracts which one pays me the most, the benefits and job protection offered. DON"T go by what you hear, but by what you see. Read it for yourself. But read it from the contract itself. That's the one you're going to agree with.

If you can find a couple of randomly chosen techs from each company, ask them what it's like working for the company and then, ask them how the union has treated them.

That's about as straightforward as I can get.

Good Luck.
