Its time for the higher ups to lead by example instead of sh;;ting on the employees

Two things come to mind.
First of all - contrats to those that have been so loyal to a company for so long. That is rare in today's workforce. I know big business doesn't care or recognize that value. Shame really.
Second - I hope they gave your wife a good severance and that maybe, just maybe you can retire comfortably? It won't be the same as if you chose the departure date but I hope it ends up good for you both as a couple.
With more layoffs coming in September, I hope MANY people still there are looking elsewhere. I would LOVE it if just before turnarounds this summer that people would leave en-mass and see them with shocked looks on their faces as none of the big-wigs have a clue what goes on in the front lines.
And to those reading this, don't forget about the September layoffs. There are more coming after the big jobs are done this summer. They were just keeping some on to get through the planned large turnarounds and construction projects etc. Then more will be occurring.
Get out. I did and I don't regret it. I work now for a place that values and respects my skills and pays a good wage. There is a GOOD life outside of Enbridge/Spectra. I hope you find it too!
Employment is more than a paycheque. Employment is identity, self-worth and purpose. Losing that connection after 36 years must be extremely difficult. Truly hope people will reach out and get the support they deserve and need.
When I started at E, just under five yrs ago, it was more of a family vibe. It certainly has changed in just a few years. Can't imagine feeling the changes that have occurred over 36 years. Be kind to yourself and hold your head up, and reach out when you are unable to do so.
@greed
I'm sure if you were let go after 36 years you would feel exactly the same...dont judge without having gone through the experience...I was let go after almost 30 years...of course not because of performance but because I was coming close to my pension pay out. It is NOT whining...it's being pissed off at how they treated us after everything we had done for them and all that we had given of our life ...in the end just being a number. And should we have been given a choice to get a pay cut, for some of us that would have been BETTER than losing our job altogether...but of course that option wasn't given. And as for the business they have to run, good luck trying to boost the morale of those that are left!
Greed
I'm most positive that if it was you that was let go this way after 36 years you would feel the same way...dont judge without having experienced the same...I was let go after almost 30 years...gave my youth to the company...and then they let me go.. of course not based on performance but based on the fact that I was getting close to my pension pay out. Unfortunately this tarnished all the good the company did...sad because it was a very different company then...very happy to not be a part of it any longer...living in such a stressful environment. It's NOT whining, it's being pissed off at being treated like everything you've done for them meant nothing!!!! And if they had offered a pay cut, for some that would have been better than losing your job all together!!
Sorry to busy working.....
@Greed?
G0 F-- your self.
"Greedy?" troll (previous poster)
So instead of being grateful for 36 years, you're whining. Your wife probably made a better living than police, firemen, teachers, military members and more. O&G is well compensated and bonused compared to many other industries. At the end of the day, they have a business to run, if they turned around and said EVERYONE will take a 50% pay cut and no bonuses for the next 3 years, you'd have a different segment complaining.
As the Bible states, it's easier for a camel to cross thru the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the pearly gates of heaven.. they'll reap what they've sewn here on earth for eternity😩Rest their soles..
Yep, after a 36 year dedicated career with the company, my wife was called in to say her job was eliminated. It's all good as 60 or 70 years is a very short time, as life after here is eternity. The corporate CEO's and high management do people wrong to make themselves richer a the cost of running over people just because they have that authority. It's good to know that when the time comes to judge them, a much higher authority will know exactly what they've done in this short life. Pray for them not us as God will answer.
