Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

Forcing

ATS is now forcing some construction workers to go to Rockland depot to work from as far as Monmouth depot. This will be the norm since you are a contractor now.

From Monmouth County, New Jersey

to Nanuet, New York

1 h 23 min (74.9 miles)

via Garden State Pkwy

Idiots we are getting paid from the minute we get into a company truck till I get home in a company truck and tolls etc. I'm doing 14 hrs a day and I volunteered. It's about me and my family and I'm making the money now. So stop bringing negatives to everything. And yes I volunteered I was not forced.

The reason you guys are traveling so far is because they can't get a contractor to work for the measly $$ they want to pay so until TSI Connects gets their sh-- together and takes over your a-- is ours. Oh and once they get their sh-- together you're all gone

The most pertinent questions would have to be:

  • Did management communicate they would be required to work 75 miles away from their current base PRIOR to them signing over to ATS ?

  • Is there any ATS documentation indicating these changes to the terms of employment ?

  • How much time was given to these techs to make proper arrangements for this change ?

  • Does this only apply to construction techs ?

  • Wouldn't it be more cost efficient to utilize construction techs from NY as opposed to Monmouth,NJ ?

Time spent traveling during normal work hours is considered compensable work time. Time spent in home-to-work travel by an employee in an employer-provided vehicle, or in activities performed by an employee that are incidental to the use of the vehicle for commuting, generally is not "hours worked" and, therefore, does not have to be paid. This provision applies only if the travel is within the normal commuting area for the employer's business and the use of the vehicle is subject to an agreement between the employer and the employee or the employee's representative.

I love it when people say that your an "at will" employee. Such a weak excuse. Everybody is an at will employee unless your a slave. Being an at will employee does not mean you don't have rights. This is how the unions came to be. It seems like altice doesn't know the history of this country. As they are making the same mistakes of yesteryear.

Is there any reimbursement for time and mileage? I am asking because I do not know the deal. Home Depot pays 54 cents per mile if the travel is over 35 miles round trip. And they cover tolls. Also, Home Depot pays for travel time. I just forgot how much.

If they're NOT covering for your expenses, then you're getting screwed.... BIG TIME.

A union contract MAY have covered that. Of course it would have to be negotiated. But sooner or later, you guys will have to put your foot down.

WHEN IS ENOUGH..... ENOUGH ?

They are not forcing, you are an at will employee, and can go find another job. There are many employees that are dedicated, and can still balance home and work life.

How does a union protect us, are they going to limit how far they can send us?

They are not asking, they are forcing.

Could this be a tactic to force employees into an uncomfortable situation so that they will voluntarily separate themselves from the company?

Is Altice capable of doing such a thing?

Well then "Forcing" is an exaggeration, if they are asking for volunteers. You are never forced, you always leave and find another job.

The point is that not all of the workers can commit to getting home everyday between 8-10pm .they are not asking for a volunteer. You have to work till you finish.
