Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

Trade off of Broadcom

first of all, let me say the positives, money is good, i work in the valley, in semi industry, the new avago/broadcom rsu and bonus is something.

now the bad, most of my co-workers are either quit or in so-called transition, which are worse than laid-off, those ppl are doing nothing, don't show up to work and slacking off big time waiting for their big pay-day with 1.5x transition bonus. everything is behind schedule, and bag-holder like myself will be facing 5-7 projects in coming weeks/months, my work-load will get at least doubled or tripled.

do people like myself stick around for their rsu and year-end bonus while working like a dog covering what used to be 3-4 or 5-6 people work-load, or do i just move on? i keep debating this question, even though money is good, (relatively), i am suspecting i couldn't survive long enough to collect it.

Ya know it's really not that easy to make money. You may say "everything s---s at Broadcom but the money" well the money is a BIG but. Unless you have a really big stack o' cash sitting around from some earlier windfall you may want to stick it out long enough to get a nice nest egg put away.

Having said that you need some life/work balance in your life so if you're regularly putting in crazy hours I would say you need to push back against your management and tell them there's no way you can meet your schedules.

So I guess my advice is stick it out a little longer but push back against management on schedules.

one interesting thing is if money is good, like so many people claimed here, why there are so many disgruntled employees? looks like everyone i talked to, either going-forward ones or transition ones w big pay-day ahead, all hated the new broadcom. Funny hock is trying to play spin-doctor in all hands when asked about force reduction, people are leaving this company left and right, that's the fact.

There is nothing like Tech Driven Company. All companies & businesses have to run on pure economics ...period.

6zro - you think hock is stupid to give away easy money as 'packages'? He'll just make ppl work till they quit. Brcm is no longer a tech driven co. It's run by accountants who try to make the stock look good. Ppl like you don't realize this will only to be sorely disappointed in the end.

I am not waiting for rsu. I am waiting for the package @@ you may not able to get all rsu.

But at least you will take the package for sure!

The Broadcom Shanghai folks were informed of the layoff right before the 2017 RSU allocation, and their shares now go to the US folks in the same BU, realy a good year for them, with probably doubled or tripled RSU

You guys watched Betas on Amazon? This is exactly what happens in that comedy show. People move to the roof garden to 'vest out' their equity :)

Don't worry. Usually you will be layoffed before collecting all rsu. That's why they grant you so many rsu. Hock calculated it precisely.....

if you go to the fruit company, pay may be similar or a little higher but still you need to work overtime

Stay but don't work overtime. Collect the nice money while looking for other opportunities. Worst thing that could happen is the 1.5x transition package or 2xn weeks of severance.

Sounds like a very toxic work place. Have you guys taped out any chips in the past 1 year?

Move on. The bonus and tax stolen from it will not be worth your health.
