Thread regarding Williams Cos. layoffs

Just for Thursday and Friday alone.

Some look like backfilling. Studies show that companies don't do well that layoff and then replace those jobs shortly later. If the rate of hiring continues to accerlate, Williams will just be another data point to support these studies, not to mention the problems created for the terminated employees.

there are lots of people who are trying to get back into the workforce and can't, a lot of times the only reason is age discrimination. Everyone doesn't have a perfect career, you need a dose of reality, seems like the younger generation is living in a world, where they break rules just to benefit themselves . Shows a lack of integerity and a real problem with the ways are going right now.

True about ET. You are much better off with AA than either the CEO of ET or Keith Meiser, count your lucky stars.

I might add that Williams is in the natural gas buisness it is not like it is all that volatile, comparing Williams to oil&gas is a red herring.

Agreed and that is a good plan. Ok, oil & gas buisness is volatile, I guess we all got caught up in that. Not a big fan of all the reorganizations, power plays and empire building. I think a lot of good people got crushed due to some excessive hiring that wasn't in the best interest of the shareholders also After the merger with Access all hiring at Williams should have been frozen and I saw a lot of very questionable empire building, imhp

Williams isn't alone in over staffing then having to layoff. Much of the 16 issues were brought on by buying Access, then defending against Energy Trans. The interesting thing is gray hair may not be welcome on the payroll, but seems to be a asset in the consulting world. There are no guarantees in business. If you aren't taking care of your career, why should Williams? Or any company?

It always has been that way, nothing has changed. Just a different crowd with different buzz words and rules. the end prize is the same, adapt or lose.

Yeah, these big companies are like sheep they all do the same thing. It is called cultural and behavioral based interviewing, these are the enhanced techniques that are being used to screen out older employees. Even if you aced the interviews, they would still probably find another reason not to hire you, almost impossible to get hired at a big company if you are over a certain age.

What I am seeing is sneaky hiring practices that screen out older employees. Maybe this SME will bring their expertise to Williams to enhance these techniques, why elese would they be paying big bucks for this position?

I am old fashioned if someone shows up every day and makes contributions to the team keep them. You can always find a place for that person, it doesn't make sense to have a bunch of stars, on your team, everyone can't be a quarterback. You carry every one and let the drop out on their own or fire them, if they are a real problem. No excuse for what is going on.

How crazy is this they are looking for a Subject Matter Expert SME in talent aquisition, I bet all the managing are crying wolf, they don't have any talent to get the job done!

RLMFAO, so sad, just fired a lot of talent a short time ago.
