It's never a move in the right direction if students are failing and in debt they can't pay back and taxpayers are losing money. All research up to this point supports that is what is happening to for profit students. For hard data, look to the Senate report. This deal looks a lot like a last ditch effort to keep the money train rolling to the detriment of students and taxpayers. If you are against this, now is the time to write your AG and the US Department of education. These are elected officials who are interested in retaining their constituates. Your voice matters. Take the time today to use it.

So wait the California and Mass AGs that could have killed EDMC with the 11 billion dollar lawsuit but didn't are now going to block a deal? They had the chance to crush the company and now that it's trying to actually move in the right direction they're going to fight that? Why didn't they just crush it like a grape with the original lawsuit? It makes zero logical sense.

California AG is looking to block the deal as well? Any links or quotes you can share? California could be make or break for the deal, as DCF are based in LA

Same goes for California. AG is looking to put a stop to the deal.

Anyone living in Massachusetts who are skeptical of this deal should contact the AG's office, it sounds like she is deciding whether or not to fight this like she did with the sale to the Indian company, effectively shutting down that deal.

This sale might just be EDMC "poking and hoping" at this point!

Your Harvard analogy falls flat. The quality of education at an AI is not college level. The equipment/technology is out of date. The only people who still "teach" at an AI are felons or those still working the system for VERY easy $. They know they are on the titanic and riding the last wave.

Ken M. an attendee from Harvard is now buried in debt he can't pay off. Ken complains that the school didn't just hand him everything and now he has to work to pay for money he borrowed. If only Harvard had told him school costs money Ken wouldn't be in this position. When asked about it Ken said, "When I was a kid everyone got a trophy, I thought things were just handed to you. Now I have debt because I didn't finish what I started."

The poster just below this post may be right. It appears that outside interest may be attempting to funnel money through a not-profit to purchase EDMC and get around government regulations. This may be a last ditch effort to save what's left of EDMC and pay off KKR.

This one AG was also able to basically kill the deal with the Indian company with an assist from the students in Boston.....So I wouldn't exactly disregard this. IMO if this deal falls through EDMC schools are going to announce closure immediately, seems like all the money is gone and KKR are ready to write this one off.

I for one love leaching of others and beating them into believing they are the problem .

Sorry ltq but I think the article was written pretty well. Moore seems to be the only reporter in America willing to ask some hard questions about this whole smelly deal. Mostly everyone seems content to swallow the BS press releases. I appreciate that she's trying. And so she ends the story with an anecdote? So what? It's a good story.

Piss poor article. Was the Indian Non-profit super successful? There's one state that's stomping their feet and throwing a tantrum. It talks about a Trump administration having a choice as if they won't support the free market. Then ends with anecdotal evidence that tries to tug heart strings. Terrible.
