So, even though nothing is even close to being final with this pending EDMC/DCF sale, posters of the pending sale are on the walls of Ai campuses as well as another poster ensuring students that gainful employment longer affects them because of this Dream sale... sigh

"Business as usual, for now. EDMC, which informed its employees Friday of the sale, said the schools will continue to operate business as usual in the short term. The corporate future of the Pittsburgh company, which is managing the 43 Brown Mackie and Art Institute schools it is winding down, remains uncertain. Those schools are expected to close by the end of this year. “EDMC will still exist, the question is what will it do?” Mr. McEachen said. “That’s going to be up to the board of directors.”
On the AI website there a prominent splash page that says "we're going non profit" and has a bullet point list of the benefits to students. It looks like a done deal. If I were a current student who was trying to figure out whether to cut my losses or stay right now, this information would sway me to stay. If I were a candidate looking at the school I'd use that information to disregard people posting warnings about the school's future. All I can say is that if this isn't a done deal it's highly unethical and misleading to put that information out there in that way. In fact it's highly unethical to even allude to it because it implies safety and security. It could also be viewed as a way to manipulate federal decision making because while students feel safe and others feel safe enrolling, federal aid is being granted, so if the feds shoot down this deal, who will pay for the billions of dollars of forgiven debt? Is the money needed from repayment of student loans allocated elsewhere?
This is all so shady. How can ANYONE still work at these schools? How unethical are you people?
This is embarrassing. The programs would absolutely still be subject to gainful employment regulations. Gainful employment is specific to vocational programs, and these programs are vocational. Texas Tech (a public non-profit university) has a vocational program that is subject to gainful employment. Harvard University (a private non-profit university) has a vocational program that is subject to gainful employment. Dream Center (assuming the sale is approved, which is far from a sure thing) would need to have these programs re-classified as non-vocational, which requires an entirely separate application approval process. Until then, gainful employment still applies. They're either clueless or lying and neither is promising for these schools' and students' future.
It's on artinstitutes.edu check it out.
Well that's enough. I'm going to Sonic for a hot dog and a milkshake. Peace out.
@itow,
Now let me get this crap right.
"Everyone on campus is focused on student success."
"My concern is for the fellow students."
Then: "There is no mention of the sale to students." followed by "Most students have no idea that Ai is part of EDMC."
All this incoherency is then neatly tied
together with an additional non-sequitur
that has something to do with 6 media
companies and 90% of something and you needing to put the crack pipe down immediately.
This is total crap. There are no posters on our campus. Classes are continuing as usual. We are going into finals, new students coming in the spring and everyone on campus is focused on student success. There is no mention of the sale to students, totally inappropriate. Most students have no idea that AI is a part of EDMC. EDMC is all smoke and mirrors at this point. Just like you think there are lots of media companies to get your news... 6 Corporations Control 90% Of The Media In America. But the campuses are removed from the EDMC drama. Who knows the future. Don''t sweat the small stuff, we will survive. My concern is for the current students. What will DC do, and if they are allowed to even buy the company and convert it to nonprofit. They don't seem an appropriate white knight at this point - very different agenda.
Yes, how is it legal to post these around campus. Last time I checked we are still a for profit school, this sale is a long way from a done deal. What happens if the sale doesn't go through? Then we take the posters down and say "just kidding, gainful is still a thing?"
Seems very unethical and potentially illegal to be posting these and telling our students not to worry about gainful until the sale is a done deal and DCF have taken over.
Desperation LMAO
